Sony have discontinued production of the 60GB PlayStation 3. They issued a statement that it's due to "consumer feedback", but the fact that they make slightly more profit on the 40GB model may be the actual reason. So, the 60GB has quickly become rarer than a Nintendo Wii. The PS3 40GB obviously has less storage, but the main thing you lose is the ability to play PlayStation 2 games. If you're lucky you may find a store somewhere that hasn't sold all the 60GBs yet - otherwise the 40GB is the only option in the UK for now

Hi there, I recently had the same problem as you. I manged to get a PS3 60GB from toysrus. If they have no more in stock u can try lots of websites which sell them.
Don't worry the 40GB is not as bad as u may think.
Hope this helped.

PAL 60GB isn't lika NTSC 60GB. NTSC version plays almost all PS2 games, while PAL - around 80%. That's because NTSC version has PS2 cpu and GPU, while PAL - only GPU.
Sony had stopped manufacturing them due to cost reduction plan. If you plan to play PS2 games from your region - 60GB is your only option ( www.ebay.com ). If you don't minв getting your PS2 games from States - 80GB (not available in Europe).
