Civil Matter?
Question Details: MOm got into an accident, but the police will not file a report. WHat he did was write the other drivers information on a yellow card and on the back it says " civil matter". What does it mean?

Here is what happen: A truck rear ended with a car.. and then that car rear ended with my mom's car... Do i report this to my insurance or how should i Handle this case ?

Yes, report it. If there are no personal injuries the police won't make a report because they are not allowed to assess blame. It is a civil matter because it does not go to criminal court.

Additional Info: Your insurance company will send you a form to fill out where you list the details of the accident. That form will be sent to the department of motor vehicles by your insurance company. Unless your insurance company receives that form, completed by you, you will not be able to file a claim.

I am very surprised that the police did not fill out a police report. They were supposed too, I would contact that agency and inquire as to why he didnt. Anytime a vehicle is involved in a accident, the insurance company commonly requires a police report, police officers are not allowed to point out who is at fault, but it does say who recieved a citation, and it is also used by the insurance to determine who is at fault. Your mom needs to request a police report for her insurance, they should do one at her request, if they don't, she needs to let her insurance company know she requested one but the police refused.
