my son is 2 and he always chews on his finger nails and toe nails. I dont get it. I dont know where he got it from cus me and my husband dont chew on our nails. HE just seams like he always has to chew on something, toys, sometimes the wall or anything hard. My doc said oh its just a phase, and they told me that when he was about 6 months old, and it hasnt stoped its gotten worse, and i dont know what to do to stop him, when i tell him to stop he doesnt listen, he never does, and it really makes me mad sometimes.

There is a nail polish sort of thing which is very bitter to the taste so it deters children form bitting. It is toxic in large amounts but it safe on fingernails.
Some kids take a while to grow out of things while some seem to do it on command. I still bite my nails when I get bored or they get tooo long without realising.

If you check your local drug store, they sell a finger nail polish that is non-toxic, but tastes bitter. That worked to help my daughter not suck her thumb. (It was ruining her teeth.) Also, maybe he's teething. They chew on just about anything to cut their teeth.... just a thought.

If it bugs you that much, you could try distracting him with a fun game or toy. Otherwise, why make an issue out of it?
