Because Yahoo Answers groups religious questions into the Society and Culture tab.

I have nothing to prove, just an acute interest in cultural anthropology. You're questions just happen to end up in a tab that they probably shouldn't.

I honestly don't see many posts attacking faiths. Why you feel the need to defend anything is beyond me. The majority of posts addressing atheism start out with "Atheists, why/what..." wha?... hey, just like this one.

From an intellectual perspective, religious faith can't be "defended" because it has no basis in reason or logic.

And perhaps, just perhaps, if Christians were a little bit more humble - as Christ taught people to be - then maybe they wouldn't have perpetuated the sort of racist, sexist, classist and genocidal atrocities that they, and most other religions have commited throughout history.

If there is a "Christian" god, believe me, he wants nothing to do with the billions of people who claim to speak for him.

Why do you feel you need to defend your faith? I'm here for the laughs and some of you christians provide the best of them. Keep up the good work.

Why would anyone want to limit the variety of opinions and beliefs they are exposed to? The only explanation I can come up with is that you aren't interested in learning anything new, your mind is already made up and closed to change or learning, you simply want to make everyone follow your beliefs. Doesn't it bother you that you have no chance of every experiencing that moment of joy when you suddenly understand a new or difficult concept? I pity you. How shallow life must be for you.

then we are here for the same reason you are to defend our belief, the only difference is we don't believe. I'm here to let Christians know that they can't bully people into being like them. we are just the other end of the spectrum.

To have fun.
To touch base with atheist 360 friends.
To debunk myths about atheism.
To answer questions about atheism.
To point out the more obvious logical fallacies.
To laugh at funny things.
To get angry about things that anger me.
To learn new things (like today, I acquired a new favorite concept: "doublethink")

Lots of reasons.

Cheers!

1) I'm bored
2) It's fun to answer some of these questions
3) To express my disdain regarding religion without worrying about losing friends
4) Sometimes I find or am able to make a really good point

I doubt I'll make any conversions, though that would be wonderful.

Because it's fun to watch you react.

That's a serious answer.

You Christians are so smug. It's a bit like watching monkeys gloat.

There are smug atheists, for sure. It's part of being human. But the name of this section is religion AND spirituality. I hold that is possible to practice spirituality without the baggage of religion. That's why I'm a Buddhist.

To mock religionists and their silly beliefs. Plus, I find many atheists' comments/answers to be educational and sometimes even a little enlightening, which I can't say for most religionists' comments/answers.

*sigh* Why does this question get asked so much. Why shouldn't they be here? They make things interesting. I LIKE my faith to be challenged. Faith with out doubt is nothing but fear.
And cupcake, please keep the converting to yourself. I'm not interested. I like my gods.
