yeah, you took the 3 years the wrong direction from the 9 year old marriage. She was 12 when the consummation happened.....(well no one really knows but she hit puberty.

Modern day person, doesn't matter what religion, pretty much agrees this is very young........then you get a defensive muslim saying he was just doing it to look after her.

You gotta realize back then, mortality rates were high. Good chance of dieing at birth or the following few years afterwards......diseases essentially had no cures....... really wasn't until penicillin that this ended, which was less than 100 years ago....but more so after WWII...when america and britain started to mass produce it. Soldiers didn't die from the wounds...they died from the infection.
So marry young and pump out as many children as possible.

As someone else above me mentioned......prophet muhammad (pbuh)...tended to do many things to be an example.......specifically to show that you couldn't marry a "child".....again in modern times a 12 year old is a kid....but back then, if you hit puberty...you were ready to take on the world......as i mentioned above....it was like this not soo long ago.

Many of the women he did marry were past menopause. If you notice, physically women start looking old after this (not attractive).....zero sexual inclinations really. Their husbands had died and muslim men are required to support their family. Women can work, but shouldn't have to....is the islamic way of thinking. Marrying a widow guarantees them financial security....its was considered to be honoring them. Again this is more so an example.

ANyways, up until a few years ago.....14 was the minimum age in some US states.

Making Excuses for Mohammad is just downright Low. Regardless of what the times allowed, it was/is a Horrible thing to have sex with Children.We Lock people up for this Crime.
To Think that someone who calls himself the Last and Greatest Prophet having sex with a Child is despicable to say the least No matter the Era. Can you Imagine if Moses or Abraham had Married a Child?
None of the Apostles of Christ Married Children, why is it acceptable for Mohammad to do it some 700 years after Christ? Why did mohammad not follow the ways of Abraham and Moses who kept away from Marrying Little Girls?

He didn't marry a 6-year-old, he married a 9-year-old and then he "consummate" the marriage after 3 years.

As to why he did that:
He did that as a lesson for Muslims not to marry underage girls and "consummate" the marriage right away, meaning the girl in Islam has to be AT LEAST 12 and MARRIED in order to have sex.

It is what was done then. Remember Mohammad was not Aisha's first fiancee. she had been bethrothed since birth to another man who refused to marry her when she was 6 because her family had converted to Islam.

Also no one is sure quite how old she is/was because there is no date of birth, she notes that it was not until after she hit puberty (according to the law) that they consumated the marriage in her biographical writings. Which could have put her as old as 11 or 12 (which would have been pushing being old to be married at the time)

I think you're looking at a valid issue but you're distorting its facts through the wrong prisim. You're looking for an opportunity to write something bigoted, therefore you're finding it - it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. However, if you take a more objective viewpoint and place this story into more historical context I think you will find a more noble moral to be paramount in this story.

From a historical standpoint, in this time period marridge and "consummation" as you worded it with those whom we today deem "underage" was not uncommon. Like it or not, however, many iterations of such behavior occur in many holy texts (The Quaran included).

However, what I think you need to be more mindful of is that the lesson Mohammed was trying to teach here is exactly on par with your implied opinion. He was attempting to show the ancient arab society, by example, the proper way to handle sexual relationships and marridge. His waiting until this child was 12 may have sent a much more profound message in that time then it does now; and I think it is imperative that you keep this in mind. Be objective if you seek truth.

And as an FYI to "My Teddy Bear Just Shat On Koran" Muslims do not worship Mohammed, only God. It is my belief that if you desire to degrade a group of people you should at least understand them. Otherwise you're only degrading yourself; I say this out of pity for you not anger at your words.
