I'm new to these anxiety attacks. Just suffered an emotional one today. I was terribly scared. I'm clueless on what to do, and what others could do to help me as well. I hate it. I thought they were little things like before, but this one was a blowout. Can you give me great advice on anything that you would like me to know. And if you want, a story of yours.

Same thing more or less happened to me last October. I felt that "Doom" & nothing could make me at ease. I found that it was something that effected me a long time ago & for whatever reason it came back in my mind. I went to my GP and was perscribed Cipramil & went to have counciling. Both of these combined helped alot. What i only found out recentily was that if you drink alot of alcohol it effects you really badly. I was at a party on Saturday night and on Sunday i thought i was going to die (not with a hangover) & this continued up till yesterday!! I will not be drinking alcohol anymore.... well maybe not as much!! Go see your GP, anxiety is very treatable it might take a while but it will ease & you will learn how to get ride of that feeling of panic before it comes to a peak. I hate the feeling so much, its mentally draining. It is also so common you would'nt believe, just say it to some of your friends & you will be amazed of so many of them having experienced the same as you at some time or other. Good luck & keep possitive.

I suffer from severe anxiety disorder amongst other things. I have the greatest "trick" for you. ICE! When you feelone coming on or are in the thick of it, grab ice cubes, sit on the floor to feel your sit spots(butt bones), preferably with your back against a wall, and squeeze those ice cubes no matter how much it burns. It will snap you back in to the present in no time. I can swear by it-but you can't let go until you are breathing properly again and your heart rate goes down, no matter how much it hurts. It's the only thing out of all of the skills I've learned through 15 years of therapy that truly works. Try it and see-it will work for you too. Best of luck :)

Try breathing slowly, like through an imaginary straw, so you don't hyperventilate and feel worst. Second look up Automatic Negative Thoughts (A.N.T.), this will surprise you how many times a day you spook yourself into thinking something bad has or is about to happen. After you check yourself, you will find your anxiety attacks will lessen. I mentally tell myself I'm being silly when I catch myself obsessing about something. Don't beat yourself up for having anxiety, allot of people do, and some have only a few episodes throughout their whole life.

I think the most important thing to remember when you're having an attack is that it is just anxiety. You're not dying, you're not having a heart attack. Back away from people if you must. You are safe. Lock those thoughts into your head and gain control of your breathing. Breathe slowly and deeply down into your abdomen so that your stomach sticks out, not so that your chest rises. Hold it for a count of three, then exhale for a count of five. Keep doing it until the attack passes.

Hi,

I have been through something very similar with my mother. It's amazing how something
can tear apart your life like that. It hit her the hardest when I was getting ready
to move out of the house to my own apartment. She took pills for it, but they only got
her so far.

We tried several different things all ending in the same result. I'm not sure if there is
a way to completely get rid of it, but there are things that can help. I know that it
does run in the family. ONE of the things that helped her out a lot was a site we can across
online while searching for help. If you're interested follow the link below and best of luck
to you.

have suffered through two myself and landed up in emergency on both accounts...NOT FUN, and was like in shock to hear this is what they think was wrong with me...than I started having them daily...I have this wonderful therapist I am working with, no meds whatsoever she even helps over the phone from Alaska to California...Her name is Ann Jovicin look it up...I listen to tapes and read papers that she had written and I am on step 3 it is a 16 step program...and I have not since had an attack..and we meet every 3 weeks so I can get my new tape and paperwork and talk...It is an eye opening experience...
You need to try and pinpoint where this came from or when an event or something must have put you into this...try and focus on something and controlled breathing...not just breath in and out you need to be in control of it...deep slow breaths in and blow out...and tell yourself you are stronger than this...trust me I KNOW how bad they are, the first one had me on the bathroom floor with me yelling call 911 I can't breath and I am in pain here....and the next one came up while I was driving and I landed up getting a numb face and body felt weak...my husband took me to emergency and they hooked me all up and did the ekg to see if I had a stroke and the blood work and nothing came up...so the doc said he would seriously consider having me go to and see someone for anxiety/panic attacks...I can give you so much info that I have learned...add me as a contact and write whenever....good luck with it...try and stay away from sweets and caffeine those are triggers for this as well...I am happy to say I have not had an attack for 3 months and I was having them daily for about 2 weeks...

I used to get them all the time it would scare me so much I feared to go outside incase i had one infront of people. The only way that i could ever deal with mine was putting my head between my legs or laying down and letting it pass. It used to get so bad that i just had to stay in my room for days on end because i didn't want anyone to see me have one. I dont know how to stop them I am sorry but you can make them less harsh with positive thinking and breathing exercises. Thats how i learnt to cope.
