I need help. My husband and I are wanting to buy a house. Then tonight I mapped sex offenders in the area we would like to move to. There is a sex offender on the same street! What do I do? What would you do? Do you live near sex offenders? It said he was convicted of rape and gross something or other. Please help!

Also, I checked every place I've ever lived in and they are everywhere!!!! Even in small towns. I don't think I'll be able to keep my daughter away no matter where I go. Check out your towns and be safe. Thanks again!
Thanks for all of the advice.

Yeah they are everywhere. I once checked where a friend of mine lived and there were about 15 of them within a few blocks area. Im lucky because most of the sex offenders in my city live down right in the town and I live above it.
But at least you know who the sex offender is on that block. There are still many you arent aware of that havent been convicted or manage to avoid registration. You just have to know where your kids are at all times and who they are with. Educate your kids. Even if you bought a house with no sex offenders on it, one could move in anywhere. I think they arent allowed within a certain number of feet of a school so you might look into living near a school. Of course the number of house break ins are higher near schools. You cant win.

In most states you can look up the owner of record on a given address with your municipal clerk (city, township, etc.). Provide the clerk with the address of the sex offender and find out who the property owner of record is. You may discover that your prospective criminal neighbor is a renter and, if so, could be moving from his current address. You don't say if the criminal is young or old. I'm sure you realize that younger people tend to move around a bit. I would also consider contacting the criminal's immediate neighbors and ask them how they feel about his presence. The criminal's neighbors may have useful information to share. It's worth the homework if you really like the neighborhood.
As a final note, providing you are really interested in the piece of property you commented on in your question: go to the Realtor and make a extra low offer and cite the presence of a sex offender in the neighborhood to validate that offer. Who knows? The sellers may have already taken this fact into account and are hoping for ANY offer. Good luck.

it's a hard question. For everyone that you know about, there are many that you don't know about.
I think that I would feel safer knowing where he lived.
In addition, there are different degrees of sex offenders.
If you like the house and the neighborhood, check out what the crime was (not just rape and gross something). Also findout if he owns the place or rents, etc. He may move.

Unfortunately, Sex Offenders are everywhere. On almost every block. There are like 4 in my neighborhood...& I don't live in a bad neighborhood either. Yes I have mapped them too...alot! & many are on the registered site..but imagine how many are NOT!...so as others have said...it is best to know where they are...then to not know.
If you really like this house...then buy it.
If not & you find something better then don't buy it.
The choice is up to you.
But don't base your decision because of a Sex Offender living on the same block. Why give him such Power?!

Well, I hope it wasn't your dream house because I would not move into that neighborhood. I did the same thing and was lucky enough to not have anybody like that living close or even on my side of town. You have to put your safety and your piece of mind first. You don't want to let a child go out and play and be late getting home you will immediately think some pervert has him/her. Keep looking and good luck.

the decision is yours. There are 12 registered sex offenders in my town. I really don't think it increases my risk of being raped. Rape can happen anywhere, anytime and by someone who was never convicted of sexual crime.

Wow. I can't imagine living my life in a constant state of paranoia like you and some of the people answering your question.
Why don't you do some research about sex offenses and stop listening to the news. They just try to scare you constantly.

What do you mean what do you do? There's nothing you can do, he lives there and it isn't going to change. You can either buy the house or find another one.
