For my science fair project, i had to growth bacteria. I put contact cleaner on it to see if it would kill it. The Petri dishes are mostly foggy, but on one there are clear rings of where I put the contact cleaner. I was wondering what that meant. I'm not really even sure what inhibition is. I was hoping someone would be able to help me form a conclusion about my experiment.

Inhibition, in the way you're using the word, means to slow down or stop growth.

I can't see you plates (obviously), but it sounds like on the one, the clear rings are where bacteria either didn't grow or was killed.

More then likely the type of bacteria was staphylococcus which has a low resistance to alcohol and ammonia, this is usually applied topically...non internal. If the colonies are still growing it's likely to be a strep type of bacteria. You can also identify certain types of strap and strep by using iodine(Gram Staining).Inhibition in the case of bacteria is considered: the lack of the organism to populate.
