I prefer the Springfield XD over Glocks. I think the XD is an all around better gun. The XD is just as reliable as the Glocks are but the XD has 3 other safeties that Glocks do not have. Both us the USA trigger safety (which I do not think is a true safety), but the XD has the grip safety (like a 1911), a striker status indicator (on back of slide) that you can visually see if the striker is in the ready to fire position, and the load indicator (on top of slide) that will visually tell you if you have a live round in the chamber.
I also like the ergonomics of the XD. It has a natural point that I do not see in Glocks, the grip is a little smaller so my hand fits better (even for the full size Tactical Models). The XD is also a little heavier so less recoil. The sights are better and easier on my eyes.

I bought the XD compact (the smallest one) last year in .40 cal. Weight was a concern for me as its my concealed carry gun, so the added weight of the .45 acp made it not appealing. I use the small 9 round clips and it fits real snugly in the small of my back in a pancake holster.

I have shot the large frame XD and the Glock 21, too, and I'd still choose the XD over the Glock.

I LOVE MY XD, my only complaint is the finish. I'm around water a lot and sometimes I've gotten it splashed. Within a year the finish was shot and I had to get the upper slide molly coated. I've never had a jam using normal ammunition. I qualify that remark in that I use specialty .40 shot shells for water moccassins since I'm in the water a lot and they have a tendency to jam after the second or third shot.

Also, you can find the XD packages with extra "goodies" too such as the hard holster, multiple clips, and loaders.

I like the safety features of the XD, including the pin indicator, and the loaded round indicator. The XD's feel better in my hand than the GLocks do, but thats just personal opinion.

I'm sure 'll open myself up for a lot of criticism here with this next statement, but I just don't understand the popularity of Glocks. Yes they are mechanically sound platform, but to me they are Ugly, heavy pieces of metal and plastic that don't feel right in my hand.

They are both good but the XD will fit your hand better. I owned a Glock 21 and it was a handful and a half (and I have large hands). Personally, I do not like the triggers of either gun.

The Springfield is the better buy. Both are fine firearms but the XD costs less as does the S&W M&P.
Pick what feels best in your hand. All else is close to equal.

Personally, I prefer the Glock. I like it because it can be serviced by someone mechically inclined, and they are super reliable and safe, as safe as any firearm can be and still be ready for action. I like the Glock model 22 in .40 S&W caliber.

I've heard the XD called a Glock clone - and a damn good one, too. I believe it will come down to preference and pricetag, but certainly there's no wrong decision here. Both guns are reputable and proven.

Reconsider and look at the Colt Combat Commander in 45 acp.**
