It really doesn't matter to me one way or the other, but a lot of people care. I lean toward creationism, based on classes and books I've read, but I could be wrong. Evolution has not been proven.
A good book to read is "The Case for a Creator" by Lee Strobel. It doesn't just cover evolution, but other cool stuff too. I think he is great for a new Christian still struggling with questions. Then you should read the Case for Christ (to see evidence of the validity of the Bible) and The Case for Faith (if you are interested in some of the basic philosophical and emotional objections). They are really good! I don't think you can get a full opinion from yahoo answers. I agree with the first answerer.
"My most recent faith struggle is not one of intellect. I don’t really do that anymore. Sooner or later you just figure out there are some guys who don’t believe in God and they can prove He doesn't exist, and there are some other guys who do believe in God and they can prove He does exist, and the argument stopped being about God a long time ago and now it’s about who is smarter, and honestly I don’t care. "
Donald Miller
But if there is something that you are struggling with DO question it. But don't get caught up in the argument, it's mostly about pride, as you will see on here a lot!

Dear Michelle.
God can do whatever he wants. If you think about it , the big bang, evolution etc is a brilliant God like way of doing things. It shows that He is truly intelligent and free from the bondage of time. When He inspired man to write out Genesis, I doubt that he would have told a people right out of the Stone Age about Dinosaurs or quantum physics or how their Earth came from the remnants of one or possibly two stars billions of years ago. why would he? We wouldn't comprehend things like that for another 4000 years. On the other hand, how do you know he didn't create everything 150 years ago or even the day before you were born and just make everything to look like it seems 12 billion years old, I mean we are talking about God aren't we?
All this is a moot point. It doesn't matter one iota toward salvation. And here is a point that I wish some of my fundamentalist friends would get through their heads....If you accept the Bible so completely to the point that you make a book your God you are breaking the 1st commandment. The Word is Jesus. If the old testament was infallible Christ wouldn't have never had to come and live among us. This is the pitfall of Islam, they think that the Koran is literally God speaking....and how can you disagree with God?
The other point I'd like to make to my fundamentalist brothers and sisters is this, If your intransigence on the literal reading of Genesis turns people of science away from coming to know Christ because they assume that your faith is based on folklore and superstition then you have sinned against the Body of Christ, and if this sin of pride (and thats what it is) causes someone to an eternity of damnation, you'll have to explain yourself someday.

I try to stay abreast of these things, and I am not aware of any PROOF of evolution. It is, has been, and always will be, just THEORY, based upon assumptions and conjecture.
As for the Bible, it skips over the development of the earth before Adam. There's no mention of dinosaurs or primitive man-like creatures. And it does that simply because they are not necessary to the plan of God's salvation, which is the purpose of the Bible.
I'm of the opinion that between the first two verses of the Bible there is a several billion year gap. That is, God didn't create the earth in a state of being "without form, and void," but that Satan damaged it after God had made it habitable. And then, verse 2, God started to fix the mess that Satan caused.
The Bible is just too silent on the matter to argue about. On the matters of salvation, however, it is very clear and detailed.

Actually, there is NO evidence that evolution happened. You've probably heard of "Lucy" and "The Nebraska Man" etc but guess what? These were faked! "Lucy", the ape who "experts" claimed had a spine like humans, was just a normal ape and the "experts" cut her bones and refitted them to make it look different, on national TV! "The Nebraska Man" was a PIG tooth and an ape bone something like 50m apart.
Also, if evolution had occured, then people would have found lots of "in-between"/"missing link" skeletons, instead they haven't found any!
No, evolution didn't exist and in fact it completely contradicts the Bible. The Bible clearly states that GOD CREATED ALL THINGS. On the 5th day of creation, He made birds and fish. On the 6th day of creation, He made both man and all other animals. Though different "breeds" of the same type of animals have since occured, evolution didn't. God told the animals to mate "after their own kind" so cross-breeding didn't occur.
If you don't believe the Genesis account of creation (the very first verse in the Bible says "in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth") then why should you believe the rest of the Bible?
As regards the dinosaurs, they were created on the same day as Adam.
I'm sorry, I don't think I've explained it very well, but it comes down to this: evolution isn't real because God created everything. Evolution never occured.
I once read a really helpful book on this subject, but I can't remember what it is called :-(. I think it was something like "Skeleton in your closet" and it was an A4 hardcover book with cartoony pictures and the format was a dad answering his questions, but I can't remember the author or the exact title sorry.

The dinosaurs all completely died out or transformed into unrecognizably different species. So ancient man would not have been aware that they'd ever existed. That includes the Hebrews.
If the authors of Genesis had written that, before God created man, he created milions of gigantic lizards who roamed throughout the world but then all died away, what do you think the people would have done with them? Stories that have nothing to do with human beings or that make no sense have little chance of making it into holy writ. Even the craziest, most apocalyptic prophecy won't make it unless the reader can say, "Oh, I know what he's talking about..."
Laying out the whole of geologic and biological history would have been tedious and incomprehensible. That's not the purpose of the book. It's about the WHY of creation, not the HOW.

Hi, Michelle. Welcome to God's family!
I honestly can't see any conflict between Creation and evolution. One day for God, in the Scripture, could mean many billions of years for us. So yes, He spent six "days" creating the earth and the heavens, and the beasts, and man--but I don't remember seeing anywhere in the Bible that God said, "OK, now I'm all done with the Creating part. I'll never Create anything again." I think it's entirely possible that what we call "evolution" is simply one of the mechanisms of God's ongoing Creation.
Hope this helps. God bless you!

Most mainstream Christians accept evolution. Sadly, those that don't tend to make a lot of noise.
It has only been within that past few hundred years that Christians took Genesis literally. Before that I suppose people had a better understanding of metaphor.

wow. i've had this question alot....hmmm...
think of it like this....
i've read some previous answers and they're about humans and apes and chromosomes and comparisons...all that.
God created us all at the same time...he is marvelous, beautiful, splendid....he made everything out of the same thing. why would he make a human out of cells and an ape out of like leaves or something? wouldn't make sense...
like beautiful painters...most of them base all their artworks with the same subject, emotion, or style...its kind of their signiture...
you see what i mean?
as for the evolution...everything does evolutionize....things adapt to their environment...like....hmmm....in the summer we wear light clothes, shorts, tanks, etc. then the winter comes and we grab a coat...is this not a form of evolution?
God made everything with the characteristics and availability to be changed for their survival...i think scientists simply took evolution too far, maybe?
good luck on your spiritual quest!
I'm soo happy for you!

considering written history is a very small amount of time when against the backdrop of unwritten history, your question makes me wonder if you knew this before you asked the question. Because that would explain things wouldn't it?
