Both ceramic and tle would meet your needs for a durable floor that would withstand pets and foot traffic. Both come in a variety of styles and price so I think you could find something you like in either one. However, there are some other things to consider.
Tile floors are inherently harder and will feel colder to the touch. Personally, that's fine for a bathroom, kitchen or outdoor entrance but it's not the type of floor I would want throughout my home. Laminate floors have a softer feel and have a small amount of give in them which is easier on your feet. If you're like us, you usually don't have shoes on in the house so a laminate will feel better.
Both are easy to clean and very durable but the tile floor will have grout lines that you may occcassionally want to seal....it's also just another place for dirt and dust to collect. The laminate realistically won't have a seam so it's just one smooth surface.
Another thing may be cost. Tile can run anywhere from less than a dollar to more than $25 per square foot but a average price is the $3-5 range. Laminates average about $3-5 dollars per square foot at your local big box stores. However, the tile install can cost as much as $10 per square foot while I had quotes of about $1.50 per square foot for installing a glue down wood laminate (and that included the glue). If you get a snap-together laminate which is even easier, the cost should be reasonable. In fact, the install for a snap-together laminate is a DIY'er.
But, if you haven't already gotten some quotes you can go to Lowes or HD to get an estimate of one versus the other based on material goods and installation price. I would also recommend that you check out a flooring and tile supplier. It seems that Lowes and HD have a pretty good selection of laminates but the tile lacks a little variety...they have lots of tile but it all looks like variation on a theme to me.
Personally, I would go with the laminate but you won't be unhappy with a tile floor if you decide to go that way. Hope this helps.

I live in a large house and debated a long time as to which to put in my kitchen. I did a lot of research and decided the Laminate was the best. The Pieces just fit together like a puzzle. They do not require any caulking or sealing. It is much easier to work with and much easier to stand on in a kitchen. The laminate will not crack like tile either. I did not get the kind that looks like wood or hardwood. I got the 16x16 squares and they look almost like stone. But they are smooth. They are not glossy and do not need to be polished. Just clean with a damp mop.My laminate has a 50 yrs warranty. It can be installed on top of linoleum if it is level The tile is hard to stand on, cold in the winter and will chip and crack. Plus you have to caulk between each one and it is much more difficult to install. Then you have the maintenance of keeping the caulking up. With tile you will have to remove the old floor before you can install it. So tile ends up costing more than the laminated and is not as good for a kitchen. The tile is okay for a bath but not the kitchen. They are only using laminate in the new homes around us and they are 4,000 sq ft homes. There is also a counter top being made of a new stone that is better than granite or corian. It is called Silestone and is beautiful and does not require any polishing or maintence.

I'm in the middle of remodeling a bathroom. The floor is going to be Ceramic and Ceramic shower walls as well as half way up the walls around the sink. It looks like it's going to be very easy to keep clean.

The problem with a tile floor is that they can break & crack. I have 3 dogs and would only have easy to clean laminate.
