There is this woman at my doctor's office. She wears a full length dress with long sleeves that looks like it's from 1800s. Always bright colors though. She wears like a white hat on her head and and a net around her hair. She's not Amish though cuz she works with computers. I'm from the mid east so I'm not familiar, I'm too embarrassed to ask her personally but curiosity is killing me. It's definitely a religious thing cuz she's always dressed that way.

it's too strange for anyone to dress that way in this day and age. I command her for it, but it's definitely not her "style." It has to be due to religious obligations. I think Mennonite or orthodox jew could both be a possibility.

I would guess Quaker, Mennonite, or Church of the Brethren.
Why not ask her? I'm sure she'd love to tell you about it.

Some Amish do use computers for their jobs -- just not at home and not for entertainment -- so she could be that, or Old Order Mennonite, or Brethren. There are "Plain" Quakers, too (I'm one), but not too many and although we have no rules about styles of headcoverings for those who wear them, we don't generally wear the style you're describing. If I'm understanding your description correctly, and I think I know the kind you mean, it's associated with the Anabaptist traditions.
Speaking as a Plain woman, I don't mind when people ask me politely about my headcovering or the way I dress. I understand their curiosity and it often leads to a nice conversation. We know that we look different, so go ahead and ask. :-)

Mennonite, possibly? They work with electricity and technology, but otherwise have many of the Amish trappings. Or maybe she just has an interesting sense of fashion.

She is probably Mennonite. They are similar to the Amish in their belief-system, but less strict in their lifestyle, more out in the world.
If you ask her respectfully and then just listen, she will probably not mind explaining to you why she dresses as she does.

Sounds like a Mennonite to me.
They are somewhat "plain living," and are related to the Amish, but do adapt themselves somewhat to modern technologies.

I don't follow your logic. What makes you so sure her wardrobe is motivated by her religion and not something like her ethnicity, or just some personal eclectic taste?

uh...
the fact that shes dressed like that might not give away her religion...but maybe her culture. I'm muslim, but my nationality is Bengali so I wear saris and stuff. But another muslim women, maybe from Eygpt, will wear something tottaly different because we are from to different countries, but our religions are the same. Get what I'm saying?
Just start a conversation with her oneday and say where your from, and she'll say where shes from!
=)
