About a month ago we got frontline for our 2 cats. The frontline worked, but my cat hasn't stopped digging at his fur. He has huge bald spots all over his body, and scabs as well. I'm at a loss as to why he is ripping his fur out. He also sits in the window all day and night, pressed against the glass. I thought at first the the frontline hadn't worked, but my other cat has stopped scratching and I haven't noticed any fleas. Could this be stress related, or something worse?

It could be many things; allergies, hormonal, behavioural, mites. It could even mean fleas - doesn't mean the Frontline hasn't worked, just means your cat is allergic and therefore needs more than just Frontline, i.e a proper housespray and preferably Program, and switching to Frontline Plus.

You need to see a vet to find out what's going on here!

I have three ideas but you need to take the cat to the vet. First I had a pet that was allergic to Frontline, had hair loss, itching skin and skin looked like it was pealing off. I changed to Revolution for fleas and he is fine. Second another cat had bald spot that was itching and had scabs. The vet checked him for ringworm but it turned out to be bacterial infection on his skin. Antibiotics cleared him up and he has had no other skin issues.

He could be allergic to the flea treatment. Let your vet know what has happened. Some vets will actually do a skin test on the cat before prescribing a flea treatment to prevent something like this from happening.

If the hair loss started after the Frontline was applied, it could be a reaction and needs to be reported.

Other possibilities are stress, other allergies, mange, etc. So it would be best to call your vet.

Hm it does sound like an alergy... it could also be psychogenic alopecia, although for that the hair is usually missing from inner limbs and torso... it is like a cat OCD when they grooming constantly cos they are bored or scared...
I would consult a vet to be on the safe side... perhaps you simply have to change flea treatment...
