Geri93940 i believe that if one alows thier kids to see the movie, that those kids should be able to discern fantasy from reality. also anyone in the word of GOD knows that GOD can not be killed. i understand that some Christians may not agree with the movie, but my point is that they have no right to tell ANYONE how they should feel about it/or any other aspect of life. i do believe that everyone should voice thier opinion, but they should state that it is thier opinion. and you say you boycott this movie because it disrespects GOD, but doesn't it say to do your alms in secrecy, for you do them for GOD and not man?

i also hope that everyone understands that these are only MY opinions, and nothing more. thank you to everyone for your time and comments. and please help us STOP THE HATE!!!

I believe it's because the higher echelons of the christian faith realise just how unstable their power structure is in this day and age - what with the advent of the internet.

People aren't so willing to let them have that power anymore, so instead of allowing an individual to go his own way, the christian powers that be will place themselves in the way.

Which is, as you've gone to some lengths to show - the complete opposite of what it's supposed to be.

EDIT: Lol @ instant -1.

It's a Christian's responsibility to discriminate. Discrimination and judging are two different things. To discriminate is to decide whether or not a person, place, or thing will be harmful to us or impact us in a negative way. To judge is to decide that the other person is either better or worse than we are, for whatever reason.

That being said, The Golden Compass is a movie being marketed to children. Within the movie the kids in the movie kill God, then get to do as they please. Knowing what the movie is about I've needed to discriminate re: whether or not it would be harmful to me or my children/grandchildren. Since scripture tells me to "shun the very appearance of evil" and since the glorification of killing God is evil, I've made the discriminated decision to boycott the movie and encourage everyone I know to boycott it.

The "harm" of the movie is that it disrespects God. He's my heavenly father, so I'm not interested in anything that disrespects him.

I hope this helps you to understand the difference between judging and discrimination. And I hope it helps you to understand what it is that Christians have against this movie.

Well all I can say on the matter is, I am a Christians, I attend a church faithfully every week, I watch some religious shows "religiously", and not once have I heard a word about this movie being condemned by the so-called Christians powers that be.
The only place where I've heard about their dis-like for the movie is -here on R&S.
So, I guess that means these Christains who hate the movie so much aren't screaming very loud about it.

Why haven't you included the other verses where you are required to make judgments about people: Matthew 7:6; we are told not to give holy things to dogs or throw pearls before pigs. Therefore we have to judge who are dogs and pigs. (see also Phil.3:2,3;).
Luke 7:43; Simon answered and said, “I suppose the one whom he forgave more.” And He said to him, “You have judged correctly.” 12:57 “And why do you not even on your own initiative judge what is right?
John 7:24; Do not judge according to appearance, but the just judgment judge.
1 Cor.5:12,13; For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church? But those who are outside, God judges. Remove the wicked man from among yourselves.
1 Cor.10:15; 'I speak as to wise men; you judge what I say'.
Phil.3:2,3; 'Watch out for the dogs, watch out for the evil workers, watch out for the mutilators (circumcisors)...'
Titus 3:10; 'Warn a divisive person once, and then warn him a second time. After that, have nothing to do with him'.

By the gods...Christians need to get off their damn high-horses...but at least they say atheism has "wonders"....

And atheists, so what if they blotted out some of the more atheistic parts of the books?

It's a MOVIE!!!! (and book) Come on people...just a damn movie that is used to ENTERTAIN, not stir controversy (Like most Christian films do, see Passion of the Christ for a prime example.) Gods...BOTH sides need to just stfu and sit in a corner...

I don't.

You are making a sweeping generalization and judging all of us because of what SOME people say.
Whether you are Christian or not, it's not good to judge others, especially when you don't even know them.
