First lets look at the Bible's definition of sin. If you read the first chapters of genesis sin is described as knowledge of good and evil or thinking for oneself. After that sin is described with a very(read VERY) few exceptions: As just about anything fun. Looking at the opposite sex for example, or the same one if you are so inclined. If you truly read the bible the "devil" is more of a humanist figure. One who supports us rather than condemns us and that is something "God" cannot stand. Also in reality "Sin" is the name of an ancient Pagan god. So basically the term sinner is just another way of blaspheming an "enemy" Deity.

I'm not sure there's any scriptures that support it, but it falls into basically two views. Satan hates god and his children, and wants to destroy as much of god's work as possible. Another view, which is becoming more popular, is that he is fulfilling the function that he was created for: questioning god and testing humanity.

Why does Satan tempt us then? First, Satan knows that it is sin that separates us from God (Isaiah 59:2) and that the wages of our sins is death (Romans 6:23). Secondly, Satan knows that a holy God cannot allow sin in His presence (Psalm 24:3-4; Zechariah 3:1-2). Because God is holy then He can't allow us as sinners to come before Him except through the Lord Jesus Christ (Hebrews 4:14-16; 7:25). Thirdly, Satan knows that our flesh is weak and that only by being in Jesus Christ can we overcome our temptation (1 John 4:4).

Satan, the fallen archangel, rebelled, and challenged God authority. Letting his Pride be his fall.
The highest virtue is humility (submission to God), and thus wisdom hates pride and self-exaltation above all. Isaiah 14:15 states Death awaits those who try to be like God.
Satan wants people to sin to keep God's children from being able to return to God. Sinners help to do Satans evil works on earth. Works of the devil are : rebellion, temptation, ruling the worls, persecution, sin and accusations of saints, instigation of false teachers, power of death.

You need to look past the symbolism and stop taking everything in scripture so literally. The so-called "devil" is a metaphor and is really a personification of man's animal nature. It needs to be recognized, used, and controlled, not hated and feared.

there is one school of thought that, the first Adam was given all the power of Satan. In case you didn't know, Satan was thrown out of heaven for rebelling against God. So some people say it is mainly jelousy. And I suspect Satan knows Adam has a weak point. Otherwise He would tempt the other angels...But it is all thought.....not sure the facts.

the devil is inside each and every one of us, and some of the more lazy amongst us would rather sit back and let him take over. he doesn't actually exist as a horned creature or whatever, but remember, anyone can become a devil in another person's life. don't let it happen to you.

The devil came to rob, steal, kill, and destroy. He wants us to join him in hell/lake of fire. The devil is a liar. Say the name of Jesus and watch him flee. Believers have complete power over the devil. Jesus has already won and satan is already defeated.
