I am getting a Playstation 3 for Christmas but i can't decide if I want a 40GB or a 60GB. I have a Playstation 2 and PS2 games and if I get the 60GB PS3 then I will give my uncle the PS2 because it makes no sense to buy the 60GB PS3 thats plays PS2 games and have a PS2. Does the 40GB and 60GB PS3 include an Ethernet Cord with it? How much does the 60GB PS3 cost (in the United States)? And one more question can you explain to me what Wifi is on the PS3. Thanks alot.

This question is an often one, so that's my cut & paste answer:
1). 20GB has no chrome trim, no memory card reader and no wi-fi. Not manufactured anymore. Has the best backwards compatibility with PS2 games due to Emotion Engine (PS2's CPU) and Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU) installed.
2). NTSC 60GB has the same backwards compatibility as 20GB version, also has memory card reader and wi-fi. Has a chrome trim.
3). 80GB - extended memory, but reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games, it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 80% of PS2 games can be played. Available only in NTSC regions.
4). 40GB - can't play PS2 games at all (all PS2 chips were removed), has 2 USBs instead of 4, no memory card reader, has wi-fi. Avalable in black and white colors. White is on sale only in Japan. Uses 65nm technology (lower power consumption). Improved cooling system.
5). PAL 60GB - reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games. it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 80% of PS2 games can be played.

I don't know if the 40GB PS3 is a lot quieter than the 60GB PS3 because I have the 60GB. My 60GB PS3 is quiet and the only times when I can hear the fan is when a game is in the console and when my PS3 has been on for about 5-10 minutes. Most brand new 60GB PS3's are selling for the same price as the 80GB PS3 or more online. There really aren't any reasons to want to own the 40GB PS3 over the 60GB PS3 other than the cheaper price. The 60GB PS3 has 2 extra USB ports, almost full backward compatibility with PS1 and PS2 games, and the flash card slots. I think that you should invest in the 60GB, but if you have a PS2 and if you just have to have a PS3 quick, just get the 40GB.

I would recommend that you get the 60GB. You might have a hard time finding one, but if you could find one, it would be worth it. As you already know, it can play almost every PS1 and PS2 game there is. Plus it has 2 extra USB slots, and a flash card reader.

The 60GB model costs $499.99, and the 40GB model costs $399.99.

The 60 GB model includes an Ethernet cable, and the 40GB doesn't. The cable that's included with the 60GB is only 9.5 feet long though, so unless you're going to have your PS3 set up next to your computer, it won't be long enough, and you'll have to buy a longer one.

Or you could use the built in wifi. The built in wifi allows your PS3 to be connected to the Internet wirelessly, provided you have wireless Internet at your home.

Again, if you can get your hands on one, I recommend you get the 60GB model. It is definitely the better buy.

No, the 40GB doesn't include the Ethernet cable but it's cheap. The 60GB is $500 in the USA, but it's very hard to find one. All the models besides the 20GB include a 802.11 b and 802.11 g.

i would suggest getting the 40gb because you bought the ps3 to play ps3 games not ps2 games right

and wifi is where you have the internet throught a wireless router and your ps3 picks it up like a laptop so no need for messy cables

hope you enjoy your ps3 and merry xmas

the ps3 60gb does more than the 40gb but they are discontinuing production so they are becoming hard to come by unless you get one in a buundle pack and overpay for it!
