it seems that these two faiths don't respect animals. I hope I am wrong.

examples (per request): my sister (of a certain faith) believes animals have no soul and are second to humans. She also thinks they are dumb. Fellow coworkers who are of a certain faith believe the same thing. The bible always talks about sacrificing animals to make god happy, yet I can not see how destroying something god created would make god happy (assuming god exists).

poohcat1, though I don't agree that animals are here to feed people, I do respect your way of doing things and I would wish that all those who raise live stock would follow your lead in treating their animals (but i would prefer that no animals were raised for live stock - which probably would never happen in my life time)

Animal rights as in what specifically? I am an animal lover. I would not knowingly cause pain to a creature or let it go hungry or allow someone else to be cruel, but I am also a meat eater. Is that contradictory...perhaps in some respects...but I think it is the case with most people...regardless of their religion or lack thereof.
My husband and I raised livestock on our farm for more than forty years. Each and every one of our pigs, chickens and cows eventually went to feeding hundreds or thousands of people. During all those years however, not an unkind deed was ever done to any of them. They were well fed, protected from the elements (Minnesota winters included) and treated with kindness and gentleness. We respected them for what they were...living creatures. But we also realized that it was their purpose to feed mankind....just as it is the purpose of the carrot and the radish....or the grass, hay and grains that we fed to the animals who then were fed to man. I know this disagrees with many people who are not meat eaters or milk drinkers or egg eaters etc, but it was our life...and we did the best for them that we could have done.

I don't know much about Muslims, but I'm a Christian, and my family and most others of my church (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) have great love for animals. We believe they are God's creations, too, that he loves them, that they have souls (not human souls, but animal souls), and that even though they're here for us to use when we need them, He expects us to look after them and treat them well. In other words, it's not a sin to kill an animal humanely and eat the meat, but it is a sin to kill an animal for no reason or put it through needless pain. Man was made ruler over the animals, but that doesn't mean we get to do whatever we want with them any more than a king gets to do whatever he wants with his subjects. He has a solemn responsibility to protect and look after them, not just boss them around.

Please give examples? how do they not respect animals? You mean the countries such as Korea that allow people to eat cats and dogs? How about the USA where animal testing is still around?
How about in Japan, all the dolphins that are murdered by way of Tuna catchers?
Humans in general are jerks who treat animals badly...and then there are also the good people who care and love animals.

I believe in animal rights. You are wrong, in some aspect all religions have some respect for animals. Examples : Hinduism, Bhuddism, Shintoism, Islam, Judaism & Christianity.

Christian here. I love and respect all of God's Creation, including all living things. (I still eat some of them, however.)
