Hi....i searched for this question first and two questions from the past had been posted but they both had opposite answers. lol one said it keeps you awake and one said it makes you drowsy. So maybe its different for each person.

All I know is I need serious cough medicine AND sleep. NOW. And Delsym was recommended to me. Please give me a quick answer if you can....I really WANT it to make me drowsy so I can sleep easier.

Yes... one of the side effects of Delsym is drowsiness and fatigue.

But for future reference, taking benadryl will make you much sleepier than an entire bottle of Delsym. Diphenhydramine the active ingredient in Benadryl is used in many different sleep aids. It works wonders =)

Delsym is dextromorphan. Dextromorphan, in general, does not make you drowsy. Children's Delsym will not make you drowsy because it uses a syrup formulation. Adult Delsym uses alcohol, and that is what will make you sleepy.
Failing that, a first generation antihistamine like benadryl will make you sleepy.
