Is anyone using S5IS ? How is it? Because I am going to buy one at SITEX. Please share your pros and cons of the camera. I have read review sites. But I want to find out from yahoo answer community. Is it good to bring for travelling ?

i was researching this camera when I was in the market for one. I remember reading from a few that the S3 IS even though it is an older model had clearer pictures. I didn't like the fact that the S3 and S5 models used AA batteries but if that's better suited for your lifestyle, i'd say they are both fine cameras.

I’ve had the S5 IS for a while now and I love it. It has lot and lots of great features, but here are some favorites:

12x Optical Zoom: The optical zoom on this thing is great.

Video: The Canon S5IS takes great video and you can optically zoom while shooting video. That’s like a real video camera. Not only that you can take still photos while shooting video!

Flash: The flash on the Canon S5 IS pops up and is centered over the lens, and when I bought the camera, my hunch was this flash would produce better photos. Well it does.

Fast: When you press the button to take a picture, it takes a picture right away. No more missing shots like I did with my old Powershot S410.

And there's the price. Not only does it have all the cool features above (and lots more), the S5 IS was cheaper than the Canon Powershot G9 and the Powershot SD850 and the SD950 IS (and about the same as other Canon SD).

I just started blogging about it because I like it so much…and also it will force me to learn more about the camera...
i hope :-)

I bought one about a few months ago because of reviews I have read swear that it's about as close to a SLR you can get without actually spending the thousands of dollars.

The picture quality and features are amazing. The only complaints I have are the focus and size.

Pros:
Awesome quality (near SLR).
Very good zoom.
Optional lens support.
LCD view finder produces awesome HD quality.
Movie mode is better than most stand-alone camcorders.
Battery life is extremely good. I used the factory AA batteries for about 2 weeks before replacing them with Energizer rechargables which has lasted since I put them in so far.
Reads SD-HD cards.

Cons:
Bulky size (I travel a lot so it's sometimes hard to carry around).
Without flash, the focus isn't there. Pictures will get blurry unless you're absolutely still. This is annoying because I don't like using the flash on 90% of my pictures. But this is the case of almost all point-and-shoots.
