Nowadays, there are hardcore atheists that are angered at the simple notion that god may exist. Many of them even seek to validate their extremist views by preaching atheism to others. They're in one corner.

In the other corner, you have genuine religious fanatics that reminisce about the Dark Ages, or about ancient times. They become angry and even violent with those that believe in something even slightly different than themselves.

Does the true God lie somewhere in between these extremes? My view is that God does not care about religion, but is instead focused on how we live our lives.

What are your views on this subject?

I tend to agree. I find it amusing that some (not all) atheists insist, repeatedly that there is no God. Then they get angry that other's are forcing religious beliefs on them. The same is true of the "fanatics" just opposite.
We all need to agree to disagree. As long as we are comfortable in what we believe, who cares what anyone else thinks? If you believe in God, that's great. If you don't, that's fine too. Each of us will have to deal with what we believe in in the end, if there is an afterlife. If not, we'll be dead and won't know.
I personally was raised a Catholic, toyed with atheism in my teenage years and have settled on my own structure of beliefs and ideas. I don't conform to a religion and I don't want to. I have no interest in being told what to believe. I refer to myself as a recovering Catholic (it's a joke, relax!). I believe in an intangible being/force that connects us all and is everywhere so to speak. I believe in a "higher power" that is not concerned with what we believe, but how we live.
So, in short (too late!) I tend to agree with you.

"Evangelical atheists" is a perfect oxymoron.

As for "the simple notion that god may exist": probability by definition can only be assigned to functions of the natural world. The existence of "God" is neither probable nor improbable because the contention is contra-natural, not logical, and not based on coherent evidence. This doesn't mean "God" cannot exist. It means you have no way of knowing based on current knowledge.

So "does the true God lie somewhere in between"? You tell me, but if your answer is yes you'll need to back it up. For example, if you can find a way to assign the odds and say they are 1:2,467,353,773,221 you'll need to show how you came to this conclusion. Until then...

No there is no in between. I think God is concerned with what is in each persons heart, not their religion. Humans make mistakes on a constant basis. Some are so passionate about their belief's that they can get a bit pushy about it. They are trying to help others, but can go to an extreme.

I think that a person who has been lucky enough to have Christ in their lives since they were young, lets say. Dont have a grasp of what its like to not know Christ. Christianity is a lifestyle just as others have their lifestyle. Christians just want everyone to have the knowledge of Christ, so they may some day accept Him into their lives.

Er, just a little biased here, aren't you?

Atheism is the reasonable, non-extremist position.

I don't remember ever seeing an atheist who was angered at the notion that god may exist. Many atheists are angered at the fact that their lives are negatively impacted by others' false-belief inspired evil behavior, but that's not at all the same thing.

There are no Atheists who are angered at the notion that a god may exist. We don't believe in a god. We don't even entertain the idea that one might exist. You are getting your info from some religious source and you don't know what you are talking about.
Atheists do not preach. We debate and converse.

U R very close . God does not like religion but He loves His children. It hurts Him when we froth at the mouth over 'Who's right.'

" It is like watching your kid walking into the path of a speeding car ,and you can't do ANYTHING about it. It tears your heart out .
Magnify that a few billion times and you've got an idea what it's like for Him."

Your view may be a reasonable one, but it has no more basis in reality than any other person's view of God. There is no evidence for the existence of the God of which you speak, or of any God.

Common sense may lie between the two extremes, but that is no guarantee that it would include a creator.

My views are that I'll believe what I want to believe, and everyone else can believe what they want to believe, and no one needs to get upset about it.
I agree that God doesn't care at all about 'religion' - how you live your life is much more important than what dogma you espouse.
