Im not hardcore christian but I too have pondered this and asked around.
Back in the bible days you had wells and ponds water that everyone drank out of without sanitation so sometimes it was healthier to drink old grape juice then the same water your camel just had, just not in excess. As for weed and alchohol, here's my opinion: Alchohol has been in our culture since before the bible, it was the drink our forefathers had while discussing independence and it was the common drink in almost any era you can think of. Marijuana however is(although it has been here for a long time) a newer drug that was not really around in the bible times. ALOT of people smoke it now a days and--and again this is only my opinion--debating whether to it legal is pointless. Given enough time so many people will be smoking it, combined the the passing on of the generation who think its bad, will make marijuana legal(probably with the same laws as beer and whatnot). There is no need for debating because its only a matter of time I say, before weed is legal, we just have to be patient.

Christians believe all sorts of different things.
See all those different churches? So you won't get just one point of view on the subject even from people who belong to the same church.
But I'd have to say the harm caused by chemical dependency and abuse is awful and shouldn't be minimized regardless of our religious or spiritual beliefs.. But obviously some chemicals, drugs are more harmful overall than others. But how do we measure the harm? Growing and selling illegal drugs like pot can lead to pain and violence. The sale and use of alcohol is pretty dangerous also. Even prescription drugs which help many sick people are often abused horribly.

God gave all the plants and herbs for your own purposes. As per his word..
I don`t see pot heads getting stoned and shooting other folks. I don`t see potheads beating the wives and kids, I don`t see potheads stealing. I certainly don`t comprehend why this plant is withheld from the sick folks it could benefit, But you can get all the narcotic drugs you want just ask the doctor he has a prescription pad full and will gladly give them so you have to keep coming back to him or her to get it.. They are as much a drug pusher as the dude on the corner with the dime bags..
There are a vast number of uses for the hemp plant. We certainly could save our family farms if they could grow it. It could be taxed and the tax money used for health care..
I certainly don`t think children should have access to it any more than with any other drug or hey what about the bar some people have in their home..
I don`t see the hospitals full of potheads. Like you do with drunks... I think that alcohol has to be the worst DRUG ever.. ...
Yes, I said drug. it is a man made product just like all other drugs.. There is a reason it is called a spirits. It is surely the devils own handiwork.. It is an evil spirit..
Peace & God bless to You from Texas.<><

the god of incoherence is accredited with anything a believer so chooses even if "you" do something it was to gods credit naturally unless it was a bad act which goes to his henchman satan.and as children of god say also neh neh nehneh neh .
what ever the mystery god says goes which by the way even though christians and other theist believers know is fact still claim not to understand the ways of the mystery god so you must wait,of course, till the judgment day when you will sit in his magistrate lap before you get your just desserts.dripping with double standard calling the singular two way?

God did make 'weed'...hemp...but not to smoke but to make rope out of it.
He also set up the science which produces alcohol...It kills germs nicely...and we can drink a LIITLE bit of it. After all, Jesus did turn the water to wine at the wedding in Caana.
So religions that ban it totally are wrong.
It is meant to be imbibed lightly.
(1 TIMOTHY 5:23) Do not drink water any longer, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent cases of sickness.
(EPHESIANS 5:18) Also, do not be getting drunk with wine, in which there is debauchery, but keep getting filled with spirit,

God made weed and man made alcohol from God made things......either way, God allows these things to be here for our benefit..... Sometimes ppl get carried away with these things and it causes problems .... but you could say that about anything....

God may have created the contents of nature BUT it's man who misuses it. In there lies the problem. Not in it's creation.
Weed can heel some disorders and alcohol can clean septic infections so you decide - Was God wrong in giving man these things and - Freedom to chose????

All of God's creation is perfect. What man does with that creation however often is not. God created oil, yet it has turned out to be both good and bad...because of how man has used it not because of the way God created it...or allowed it to be created over a period of time.

Okay, for one...get a grip and understand what you are saying.
Yes God made the things weed is made out of, but we CHOSE to smoke it, that is not what he intended it to be for. We are the ones that made it.

man is worse. instead of using what God has created in healthy and safe ways...man gives in to excess...
neither ganja or alcohol are evil by themselves. but let man come into the picture and suddenly people are dying in car crashes, addicted and useless...
the only viable response seems to be to get rid of that which makes men sin...
