My dad was a big motorcycle guy, thus we I was exposed to Robert Craig Kneivel at an early age. He also made a big noise here in Oregon when he tried to jump the Snake River Canyon that borders Idaho.
I loved the guy. They did a couple of movies about him. My brother and I made an attempted jump across the creek flowing through our back yard. We about damn near killed ourselves in the process.
He'll be missed. A one-of-a-kind.

Yes, it's very sad. He was certainly no saint but one of the biggest icons of the 1970s and 80s. How many of us used a small blanket as a cape and jumped something with our bike when we were kids, pretending to be him? I know I did. They should shoot some of his ashes over the Snake River in Idaho. R.I.P.

I seen him jump at Dragway 42 in West Salem ,Ohio in 74. He was a true showman. Never seen anything like that until him. He did probably 4 or 5 trips down the quarter on his back wheel standing on his seat for a warm up and then he made his jump.
Getting a head of myself his semi tractor and trailer was there and his tractor was soo big it was like a camper added on to the tractor but they pull his stuff out on the track and then he shows up in a helicopter.
To long ago too many good time since then but I think he jumped bus's that time. I am a pretty lucky guy to have seen him jump and I guess pretty lucky he made it too.
One other thing I was going to do and Evil and jump the fence to see him but I ended up riding in on the back of a tractor that a friend who worked there was driving. He came out and we jumped on the back and rode it in. I even was able to sit in the VIP section.
I was wrong it was semi tractors. Check out the film I found it is sort of long but I was there. We will miss you big guy!

Yeah, heard it earlier,,, R.I.P is right dude... He was the real thing man.... no doubt about it.... those of us old enough to remember seeing him do some of those jumps in person, on a Harley "basically street bike" will never forget it! If u ever thought about it,,, it took some real guts to do those stunts. Much respect.......

Yes, too bad. It's sad. Seems like I have always heard the name Evel Knievel.
