they are intollerant of religion?

Yup, and they use their opinion (as if half the world didn't disagree with them) as a fact by saying "But religion is a joke/fairytale/lie!"

Yet people shouldn't be allowed to decide for themselves... Some how all the smart atheists feel like they have to get Christianity wiped out so the lay people aren't forced with the awful task of research and personal decision. It's kind of funny how they are worried other intelligent people might not come to the same conclusions...

I dont see myself as intolerant and I dont think many atheists are, although a minority may cross the line just like a religious person might; I try to avoid generalizations as much as possible.
And Im not going to criticize you for your misspelling; doing that would be taking the easier route and not actually answering your question.
I personally believe in freedom of and freedom from religion and this is what is guaranteed by means of constitutional rights.
So go ahead and believe what you will. Where I become uncomfortable is when the influence is extended to a larger group. For example, a religion trying to exert its beliefs over an entire society i.e. abortion or same sex marriage. If you do not believe in it, so be it. Do not participate in it. But to deny others life-changing decisions because they are not in keeping with your mentality? Thats is what I am intolerant of. I am not intolerant of your right to believe what you will but I am of unwarranted intrusions on the lives of others based on your belief system.
If religion comforts you, provides you answers you cannot find elsewhere etc. then thats your choice. I am glad that you have been able to find something as such. it is otherwise for myself; I and my fellow atheists find such things in other ways i.e. science or our daily lives.
So I know that there will be some who will generalize about religion and I know that is being hypocritical. But you too can avoid being contradictory by not doing what it is you are questioning (intolerance, generalizations etc.)
Hope this helps.

OK, here's the deal.. I'm an atheist, but I have absolutely NO PROBLEM with Christians or any other faith practicing their religion freely, and in public. You want to pray before a football game? Who cares! It doesn't affect me! I'll just sit there respectfully and wait until it's over. Go for it!

You want to display the ten commandments, or have a nativity scene on the public square, or say "god bless you" when I sneeze? More power to you. If being religious gives you comfort and peace in your life, who am I to pee all over that?''

I mean, really... who here thinks we need LESS peace and comfort in the world right now? People should just mind their business and be happy that other folks have found something meaningful in their lives.

What's even more annoying is people who have "Check Spelling" available to them and still write things like "intollerant."

yeah, dumb minorities, everyone is the same and no one is special! if people were special we would need laws protecting minority rights!...seriously get over yourself. In fact put yourself in our shoes, we have to hear you ***** and moan day in and day out about how everything is the devil or satan, or how this that and the other is a sin. Sometimes i just want to shake you and yell "SHUT THE **** UP!!!", but that would be mean. you probably don't even know any atheists in real life, meaning this is the only place you come into contact with them, so your solution is, stop coming here if you don't want to hear a fraction of less than 5% of the population ***** about their opression.

Nah. I thinks whats more annoying is that some Christians (or other religious person) start ranting about that we are all going to hell because we refuse to believe in an imaginary figure.

How? Who? I don't care about your religion. As long as your religion doesn't impede on my "lack of religion" is fine by me. You are free to pretty much worship as you want. As long is it dose not impede on the religious freedom of others. In other words. All religions, or even lack of religion are treated equal.

Actually, in my own experience as a religious person, I have found that most atheists are only against having other people's religious convictions forced on them. Most atheist I have encountered are advocates for free-will and respectful of the beliefs of others.

Atheists are not intolerant of religion, far from it. They are intolerant of god botherers who try to impose their religion on others. If any group is intolerant of religions, it is other religions. I have never seen hatred and bile in atheists towards religions such as I have seen in Y!A from the self-styled religious towards other religions.

Yeah, I heard one of them complaining about how some kid died due to his refusal to have a blood transfusion. They say a child died due to religion as the blame. However they don't seem to care that thousands of innocent babies are aborted everyday due to a lack of reigion.
