Sounds like an allergy or a hot spot. Give him some benedryl based on his weight. My 65 lb chow gets a whole pill for thunder and a half for his allergies. I try to space it out and give it to him about every 5 hours or so. The cold weather seems to help him though. And put some neosporin on the spot....wait until the benedryl kicks in. Sometimes allergies or hot spots are triggered by a change in the weather. Good luck. I hope it clears up fast.

My cat did this also and in fact she bite a part of her tail off. We took her to the vet and well know she only has half a tail. Spray some apple cider vinegar on the tail and if that does not work you may want to try the vet.

It sounds like flea allergies to me. Your dog doesn't necessarily have to be covered in fleas to have this allergy. Just one flea could set off a reaction. Or it could be that something around that area is causing him pain and his only self-relief is to bite at it. You might want to get him to a vet and see what is going on.

It appears like your dogs is board or not getting adequate exercising. in the journey that your not already, take the dogs for no less than a 30 min. walk known, in case you already walk her on an known basis play greater video games along with her. If she has adequate exercising and psychological stimulation she should not be interested in her tail.

I have a lab and they have a natural oil in their fur. Around this time of year and in the spring he gets allergies and bites at his tail. It is often due to itching. You can try putting fish oil in his food or even a tablespoon of veggie oil to see if that helps but the oil back into his skin.

It sounds like your dog has either a parasite or a skin condition. You should take him to a veterinarian to be checked out.
