I have asked a question of whether or not god is guilty of crimes against humanity at one time or another. The responses were all of the vein that god was our creator so he can do what he wants and also that his ways are not within our right to question but... why is that? I mean if he his who we are to emulate as closely as possible should he not be the highest of moral standing? Yet time and again we see in the bible acts which the UN would attempt to charge as crimes against humanity. the destruction of the city of Ai, the murder of an entire family tree simply because a single man looted goods in a battle and so on. So... why is it that god is within his rights to perpetuate these terrible acts upon us and we are left to simply rationalize and justify it. To me, assuming he existed, god is the enemy of man. As the gist of the religion is serve me or die...

Why is it that you people can never answer a question in a manner that makes sense... oregon flower... "Dear" that was dumb and makes no sense.

Men rarely (if ever) manage to dream up a God superior to themselves. Most Gods have the manners and morals of a spoiled child.

I can't answer your question but am in agreement with you. I ask my very kind and good religious friends "do you mean you are only good because of your belief in the existence of God or would you not be good anyway - you are caring empathetic people - I believe you would be so anyway". I am not trying to be clever but I cannot rationalize religion in any form. I believe that many people need the crutch of religion and I believe in many of the teachings of religions (not just Christianity) but only the just and humane teachings. I believe I am a good person and always ready to help my fellow humans but I have never been able to believe in God however hard I have tried. God can only be one of two things - either omnipotent in which case he should be able to control everything, or not omnipotent in which case he cannot be God. If I were the Father of people I would not be able to stand by and allow people or any living being to suffer. Why should God be able to do this? What is the point to human agony? I am as frustrated as you sound.

You see you are asking your question from the wrong perspective. First you need to understand that God is the creator and we are the created. The next thing we need to understand is that God has laws. If someone breaks a law are the not to be punished? What God has done He has done in Righteous Judgment. If you child does something wrong do you discipline them? Besides you forgot to mention Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities of the plain that God destroyed . Why did He destroy them as well as Ai. Because the sin had become so great that God had to take action. It is not that He wanted to do it but they were so wicked that He had to act.

Here is a little feather for your cap.....As the days of Noah were, so shall the coming of the Son of man be.....There was much wickedness on the earth before the flood. If you read about it in the Bible it almost sounds exactly the way things are today.

You people look for more reasons and excuses to not serve God. That is what it all boils down to. You and your self-serving question, the evolutionist, and his/her assertions that the word of God is not true, the agnostic, with their lukewarm view on "God/ whatever may be up there". God loves you. He sent His Son to die for you. But, that's right, you could care less, or God does not exist.
I do not look for reasons to not serve God. I do not try to judge God. He may be your enemy. He is my Lord, my Savior, my friend, and I love Him. Sorry for your loss.

Why would God wipe out a people?

1. If they are so spirituall corrupt that no good can come from them at all. Being God He knows who is who.

2. If their evil practices would only serve to corrupt others: idolatry, homosexuality, beastiality, human sacrifice, total sexual immorality (like giving one's wife to guests). These people's have been wiped out over and over in history by war, famine, catastrophie, or disease.

There comes a point of no return for the depravity of Man, when God sees fit to remove what is rotten to the core in order to preserve what is only partially damaged.

3. You seek to be the judge and accuser of God. Good luck with that. We did not choose you to represent us. You are a nobody just like us. I chose different counsel a long time ago. I am going with Jesus legal advice.

4. God will continue to destroy mankind as he gets out of control. Want to know something scary?

Based upon statistics of how often the population is dramatically reduced, we are past due for another round of trouble.

Also, in the US we are not heeding God's Warnings.

Isa 13:11
11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.
(KJV)

Jer 21:14
14 But I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings, saith the LORD: and I will kindle a fire in the forest thereof, and it shall devour all things round about it.
(KJV)

Hosea 4:1-5
1 Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.
2 By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood.
3 Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.
4 Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another: for thy people are as they that strive with the priest.
5 Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother.
(KJV)

It's like mah mama always usta say "Because I said so"

I never bought it. Still don't. I would never say that to my children. I respect them, explain things allowing them to share their thoughts and ask questions so they will learn.

Very thought provoking question. It plagued me in my childhood with bible thumping parents hammering me with their fundieism. They thumped thumped thumped and to this day neither of them have read the bible although they have mad skills at misquoting it.

A man and a woman create their children. Does this give them the right to abuse and neglect them? Kill at whim? Manipulate their children to kill their grandchildren on a bet with a dodgy bloke they met down the pub?

Of course not. They are held accountable for their actions. It is time that 'god' started acting in man's image.

I think you answered your own question when you said God is within His rights.

You remind me of one of my little kids, especially my youngest who is 4. She'll say to me "who are you to tell me what to do?" and all I can do is look at her and laugh at her innocence. I think perhaps God is looking at you in the same way :)

lol I'm seriously not trying to insult you, I'm just saying that if you indeed say that God exists and is who He says He is in the Bible, then He is the creator of the universe and is so extremely awefull (not awful, but glorious) to look at that if you saw His face you would drop dead ... then who indeed is He to decide who lives and who dies and when? He is the One who stepped into finite time and space and created something with His word only ... indeed, who is He to sit in judgement over us?

lol hon, if you did really know just how powerful God is, you wouldn't even ask this question :)
