i tried pressing the "menu" button, it and the rest of the buttons on the remote won't work!
also, it's hard to turn off. if i don't shut off the power COMPLETELY from the electric cord, the LCD itself turns on and off , continuously!!!!!! HELP HELP please!!!

UNPLUG the AC power cord from the TV set <> the Cable box (if you have one) for 5 FULL MINUTES !!

Then plug it back in and set the TV to channel 3.
Turn on the box (if you have one)

You should have your picture back....

IF NOT, then press the TV's INPUT button, because you may have the box using Video 1 or Video 2 or Video 3 or Video 4 or.....

You should get the picture as long as the Cable box is powered on....

The key here is you can see the channel number being displayed on the TV set.
But you didn't have sound .....and you didn't have picture either.
And that makes me think the BOX locked up OR you had your TV set to the WRONG CHANNEL or Video input.

If you really want to dig deeper, you can look at the type of wires connecting your TV to the box or if it doesn't use the box...then it's ONLY connected using RF antenna wire. And that means channel 3 is a guaranteed TV station that will show up on any Cable system...

Seems like you got a problem with your unit. Does not surprize me. Sharp, Samsung, units are not very reliable.

If its under warranty see if you can get it repaired, if not under warranty then expect to pay for the repair if the parts are available.

If you plan on getting a new unit, I highly recommend the Sony line. They are the most rugged, well designed, most reliable units on the market.
