There is a difference between someone whom is a false prophet and someone whom made an honest mistake. Now, if they (1) claimed to be a prophet, (2) made a prophecy, and then (3) the prophecy didn't come true -- then, yes, they are a false prophet. Be careful, though, don't jump to conclusions on any of those points (lest ye be judged).
Case in point...
prophet of restitution (above):
>> The earth will one day be rejuvanated, not destroyed.
That statement is not in line with what the Bible says.
"The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein." (Nahum 1:5)
"But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up." (2Peter 3:10)
"And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea." (Rev. 21:1)
So, are they a false prophet? ...or, just making an honest mistake?

My belief is the future is not set in stone .. prophecy for me is a vision into a more likely outcome but why would we have prophecy if it wasnt a forwarning ... I know many people who have dreams I am one of them and when this happens I take note and become aware of events which could lead to a disaster . I wouldnt say false prophet unless they actually stated that they were a prophet and that this is going to happen no matter what but then this could be seen as an egotistical self empowered dellusional fool .. so take pity . I dont know my mum has dreams as well and well we discuss them and see them as insight .. she dreamnt once that she was walking with 2 grandchildren one with blue and the other red or pink I forgot but she knew one was my son and the other was meant to be a girl my daughter .. I said like if Im ever going to have more kids .. I didnt know at the time I was pregnant with my daughter so lol .. a prediction was made but she never did take them a walk with wellies .. so think about that .. I dont want to tell you my dreams has they arent as rosey .. but similar things happen the dream is there or a vision which is more likely to be clairvoyance /psychic stuff , reading another person and possible out comes if they carry on the way they do .. so for me lets carry on and be happy and not point the finger too much .. predictions are like the weather .. unpredicatble because life and freewill takes presedence but also think back about Jesus when he was a baby and the forces which were out to destroy him .. that was free will and if they had succeeded the prophecy from ancient times would have not been fullfilled .. so its abit like that .. luckily God was over seeing and divine intervention was the protection .. but that was once scenario . God doesnt get involved all the time because of our free will and we must remember that .. Its a lot harder to explain and I can see the arguement and holes in what I am saying but this is not the Garden of Eden ...........to be cont...... hehehhehheh

No.
They are not because (1.) you have to be a prophet prior to being a "false prophet" and (2.) just because you make a prediction (on world-ending, horses, or the lottery) doesn't make you a prophet in the Biblical sense.
(3.) .... the question that ought to be asked is: what is the Biblical definition of a prophet?
One of the best ways for such people to weasel out of this is by recalculating the dates - using a different calendar scheme or something.

Yes. Jesus actually said that the world would end during the life of his disciples, thus making him a false prophet.
P.S. Anyone who actually believes that they are prophet or that anyone else is a prophet needs to see a psychologist. Soon. What was considered a prophet in ancient Greece was a drunk priestess sticking her head in a lava tube and inhaling hallucinogenic volcanic gases. She supposedly came out speaking the word of Apollo.

depends on from where they make the claim
if they make the claim from a position of "religious / Spiritual" authority: ie. church pastor, church elder, the pope, a bishop, etc. then they would be "labeled" a false prophet
however; you can also add to the "false prophet" list any "leader" from any particular "religious" group who makes a prediction of the end of the world that doesn't come to pass
if it's just some "secular" person then they'd just be a bad guesser and wouldn't necessarily be counted as a false prophet but
no one should participate in such date setting or listen to those who "set Dates" since no one could ever know the end of the world.
Cheers

You would think so, wouldn't you?
But it turns out that if the world didn't end its because the "unbelievers" somehow mucked it up for everyone else....
Or, the believers didn't give the prophet enough money...
Or, the GuyintheSky changed his mind because he was pleased with the prophet.....
Or......etc etc
They'll come up with any number of crackpot reasons. Sad really...

If someone were to tell you the earth was going to end,you would not have to wait to see, just that statment alone is not Biblical. This earth will always be inhabited! The earth age will change, but the earth itself will always be. Funny how so many christians don't get that. The earth will one day be rejuvanated, not destroyed. And it will be perfect,as in the garden of Eden.

heh, no because someone can always rationalize it. The "supposed" time which the world was meant to end was invalid due to misinterpretation, one too few prophesies, this is only the beginning of a new era etc..
