I have used advantage in the past and have had no problems with it, however, in the last couple of weeks my 2 dogs have had dozens of tiny ticks. There was sod laid about 3 or 4 weeks ago and I am assuming that the ticks are coming from there. There is nothing else that is new or different in our neighborhood . Anyway, I switched to Frontline as it is supposed to kill ticks along with the fleas. It has been a week since I treated them and I am still finding a couple of tiny ticks and the dogs are scratching like they have fleas as well. What do I do. Can I add advantage since that has always worked on the fleas or is it too soon, and what do I do about the ticks ?

Are the ticks??? Try a flea and Tick bath, wait 48hrs and then use frontline plus. Flea and Tick rid the house too. Any carpet, bedding, stuffed animals, dog toys, kid toys. Time for a good cleaning. Your house and dogs will thank you. What a better time, Christmas, family coming.

Advantage doesn't treat ticks - Advantix does. Switch to that if you want flea and tick treatment. Are you completely sure they're ticks by the way?

Much as I love Frontline I have to admit I'm not 100% sure about its complete usefulness against ticks - at least the spot-on version. It's not that I've ever actually SEEN a Frontline-treated animal with ticks, you just hear stuff. I know that if you get the spray version of Frontline and put it direct on the ticks they will plop off within a few hours - the spot-on has to be used every two weeks for effectiveness against ticks, and most people don't like to use a treatment that often. For you, I would say Advantix - all the perks of a flea treatment you're happy with, with the added extra to guard against ticks!

Advantage doesn't kill ticks. Frontline works on ticks but can quickly become overloaded with a high infestation. There's another product called "Killtix" that works strictly on ticks. Sounds like you might need to treat your yard along with treating the dog. I would be more aggressive on the yard treatment instead of being aggressive on the dog treatment. Be sure and not bathe the dog 2-3 days prior to and 2-3 days after application of either Frontline or Advantage....not sure about Killtix - just read the label. Never add two producuts together - these are pesticides and can become toxic at a high enough dose to cause reactions (and possibly death at a high enough dose!) Talk with someone who knows lawn/garden and they should be able to get a liquid to spray your yard with (there's a product called "Seven" that makes a dust or liquid) Hope this helps!

Neither Advantage or Frontline repel ticks - you need to switch to Advantix or Frontline Plus.

We found this out the hard way after all 4 of our dogs got infested with the tiny ticks you describe while we were on Jekyll Island one April. We called our vet and found out the difference - all our dogs have been on Advantix since and no more tick problems.

Are you sure they are actually ticks? Ticks are not usually present in lawn sod, but rather heavy brush. I would not double up Frontline and Advantage in the same month - I'd see my vet.
