No, it is not true. There is a law saying you have to file your taxes. It is Title 26 U.S.C. It is long, boring and complicated, but it is all there.

The specific sections that apply to most people are § 1, § 61, § 62, § 63, § 3402 and § 6011.

Congress gets its power to enact income tax laws from Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution and the 16th amendment to the Constitution.

The movie "Zeitgeist" is full of inaccurate conspiracy theory nonsense. Unfortunately, it is very easy for people who are not familiar with a subject to be misled by what appears to be a plausible explanation.

Of course it's not true! There is NO WAY that the government could levy a tax for nearly 100 years without any laws governing the collection of the tax.

That film is, to put it simply, a massive collection of lies and idiocy. The poor fools who took it to heart are paying dearly, some with their very freedom.

Here's some reading materials for you:

The Constitution. Specifically Article 1, Section 8. Gives Congress the right to lay taxes. (There's not a word either way about income taxes, it's entirely up to Congress. Here's the exact wording: "The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States.")

The 16th Amendment to The Constitution. (Changed the treatment of income taxes to indirect levies not subject to apportionment following some court rulings in the late 1800s. The TRUTH is that income taxes have ALWAYS been legal, it only changed how they were levied.)

Title 26 of the US Code. The law that covers income taxes. (In simple terms it states that if your income exceeds a certain level you must file and if any tax is due you must pay it.)

Get that reading material under your belt and you're realize that the producers of that flick are liars and cheats. And that's putting it politely.

This is a classic myth. This is complete nonsense. Title 26 of the United States Code based upon the 16th Amendment of the US Constitution is the authority for income taxes. People who claim that there is no law for income taxes and do not pay their taxes have all faced fines, penalties, and some have gone to jail.

The law is "Title 26 - Internal Revenue Code".

I have posted a link to it so many times that I am sick of doing it. Look it up!

The people who claim that there is no law are called "Tax Protesters". They have been around a long long time and have a wonderfull record in court. They are batting .000. Not one of them has gotten out of paying his or her taxes using any number of theories.

File your returns and pay your taxes. You will be much happier in the long run.

Nope, not true - this gets asked here usually a couple times a day, and has been answered plenty of times citing the law. See the 16th amendment.

Use your brain if you have one. You don't have to file tax returns if you don't want to. IRS will do it for you but you will not like the result.
