Have him sign the back of the title, you as well sign the back of the title. Also you will more then likely need to take in proof of insurance. They will then title the car up right then and there for you. Give you temporary paper tags, so that you may emissions test the vehicle. After that you may sell it.

If your name is already on the title as a co-owner with your father, then he has to sign the title in the sellers space. Then tatke the title and your license to your DMV and transfer it to just your name. In NJ, it runs $10 to transfer a title, should be about the same where you are. There should not be any other fees(taxes, etc.) because you are not buying the car, you are already an owner of it.

You will need something from him saying that the car was a gift to you and the current title document. There will be a charge, at least here in New York and it takes about two weeks to get the new title back.

He still needs to sign the back of the title over to you.If your in the United States, you still may be charged a $100.00 gift charge.
My dad wrote me a bill of sales, for $1.00. Until I got credit later to buy my next one.

His signature on the back of the title or a power of attorney. Either would need to be notarized.

Depending on your state......
Your father would have to sign off on the title, giving it to you.
Call your local DMV to find out how to do it in your state.

your father has to sign it over to you. if your name is on the title now, he has to sign himself off. Go to your local DMV and they will tell you how to do it.

Your father needs to sign it over to you, and you need to pay the taxes on it.
And when you do tell them it was a gift and it will be cheaper says my mom.
