I've heard that this model isn't that reliable and was considering getting an extended warranty. How much would it cost and what would it cover?

What components do you wish to have covered and for how long? Is the vehicle 2 wheel drive or 4x4? If you are purchasing a manufacturers extended warranty, the vehicle can usually only be six years old and this Jeep would not qualify. If you are purchasing a service contract other than the manufacturers, I would not do so unless it is from a new car dealership that has been in business for many years and will stand behind what they sold you if that company goes out of business.

Finally, even if you can purchase the extended warranty, it will run from about $1,200 to $2,400 and is it really worth it when the price of the car you are purchasing should be about $9,000.

I would suggest paying a reputable mechanic $25.00 to thoroughly check out the truck for you. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a reliable vehicle that when properly maintained should easily go 150-200,000 miles

Extended warranties are usually a waste of money, I have rarely gotten my money back on them. We have a 1999 JGC with 134,000 miles and have never used the extended warranty we bought. Should have saved the $1000.

I own a 2000 Jeep Wrangler, 4.0 engine. I bought it new, and use only MOBLE 1, syn 5w30 oil, and have 178k on it, Sounds pretty relaible to me, oh yea I did blow a head gasket, because of radiator damage (stepson), and that was only $400. to repair!! Save your warrenty $$ for a set of wheels!!!!!
