Anyone who wouldn't run when some psycho is coming after them with a chainsaw is an idiot, soon to be a dead one.

Sure is! You can never tell when those darn trees will get a wild hair up the azz and start to attack people. I swear you got to keep your eye on them every second or they'll get you when you aren't looking. I always carry a chainsaw with me for just such an occasion! Great for hunting too. Just wait until a deer crosses the path just so, and then fall a tree on them. Then use the chainsaw to gut and quarter them.
On the off chance you were serious and were actually thinking of trying to use one for self defense, no, it's probably not a good idea. Picture yourself in the pitch black house as a armed intruder sneaks around while you try to pull the choke, and then start it. You now have a loud chainsaw that tells the intruder exactly where you are. If you are blocking an exit and he has a gun, your a corpse. Go with plan B of some sort and leave the chainsaw for the wood.

Have you ever heard the expression "Never take a knife to a gun fight."? Well, whether a chainsaw is a good weapon depends on what the other guy has. If he is unarmed, you definately have the edge on him. If he has a knife, your chainsaw will be pretty intimidating but also pretty unweildy. If he knows what he is doing with a knife, he might open you up like a can of beans before you could do anything with your chainsaw. If he has a gun, your a** is in a heap of hurt. If a chainsaw is all you have, you'll just have to go with it but if it were me, I'd get a gun. Bang trumps buzz everytime.

Is a chainsaw a good weapon? Only in the movies. Too noisy, they'll hear you and prepare. If you're dealing with an armed invader you'll get shot before you can get close enough to defend yourself. Chainsaws are too easily disabled. If your opponent comes at you with a crowbar what do you think will happen to your chainsaw's chain-drive-blade; the belt will break or jump rending your defensive weapon useless. You're better off with a stout stick.
Best.

In the eyes of a jury, you would be better off using a gun than a chainsaw to defend yourself. A chainsaw is every bit as lethal as a gun, but a lot less humane. You better be able to explain to the police, the judge, and the jury why you used a chainsaw to maim or kill your attacker. More than likely, no one is going to get close enough to you with the chainsaw buzzing for you to get them with it, unless you chase them, at which point you are guilty of aggravated assualt or murder. I would expect to get arrested if I used a chainsaw on anyone for any reason. I also would not expect to be able to use the self defense plea. One of the biggest problems with using a chainsaw is that it it is a large, bulky, short-range weapon that makes a lot of noise. An attacker is going to see you coming and more than likely they will either be able to dodge your attack or shoot you with a gun if they have one. A chainsaw is great for scarying someone who doesn't have a gun. If someone is chasing me with a chainsaw, they better hope that they kill me because if they don't there will be serious legal consequences for them.

A baseball bat or a tire iron would be a far better choice.
Chainsaws would be a lousy weapon - unless you are in a Hollywood movie.

If I saw a crazy guy running at me waving a chainsaw all over the place, then I would run like hell lol Unless I had a gun.
It would work great against a person who was not armed with a gun. However, if they have a gun your screwed.

Only if the scriptwriter makes it a good weapon.
I suggest you get a firearm, or at the very least a good Louisville Slugger.
That chainsaw is too noisy and too unwieldy for defensive use.

hi there
if you caught an intruder in your home , and had your trusty saw runnin full bore at his throat to keep him from runing away and had the wifey call the police , by the time they arrived you all would have died from carbon monocide poisoning, so, no not a good home defence weapon.maybe buy some bear traps and put them each night in front of all openings to your home
