Belief with the intent to be better safe than sorry really doesn't cut the bill. You have to really believe according to most religious people. Atheism does stand for Anti-Theism or a rejection of theism as truth, but is in itself not a religion.
Taking anything for face value with absolute faith--even if it is the big bang theory (notice "theory" not fact, although it is fact to some) can work as a type of religion.

I agree with the first part, a lack of belief can't be a religion no matter how you spin it. But I always have to laugh when I hear people say atheists believe in nothing. I take it your gf believes in nothing? You may not know it but atheists share only a single commonality - a lack of belief in deities. So while your gf might believe in nothing that doesn't mean all atheists don't.

"But Why Not Beleive And Be Better Safe Than Sorry?"
Pascals wager - pretend to believe in a deity out of fear - ah but which deity should one pretend to believe in?

A serious question to you. Why is spelling the word so hard? This incorrect spelling is so common I'm starting to think it's some weird theist conspiracy. And why do people think the plural form is with no 's'. Or do theists think that it's somehow insulting to atheists?

You lost all credibility with that. I gave you entirely too much credit. I was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt but honestly you sound like you're drunk and rambling.

Well good for you. Sorry you are so closed minded.
Many religions that you don't believe in actually do exist.
No, atheism is not a religion, because there is no belief in a Deity.
But, there are many other religions that just don't believe in the same thing you do, but are still very valid religions.
There are many people who classify themselves as Spiritual, but do not believe in any organized, mainstream religion, either.
Let people decide for themselves. You don't speak for anyone but yourself.
By the way, it's spelled Atheist, not the other way around.

Because the heart can not worship what the mind has rejected. To believe as an insurance policy is not really belief. If the god of any religion could be fooled into accepting a person who is just saying whatever they feel they need to in order to not go to hell (or whatever the particular religion requires), then either that god doesn't exist and the non-believer is right, or that god is unworthy of belief.

It would asking the person to be either untrue to them selves, or untrue to the religion in question. The only way a person comes to belief, is through their own journey. If you want to help someone on their journey, you encourage their seeking truth, their asking of deeper questions etc...

I really hate it when there is a post by someone that sounds really good...like a believer actually saying that it's NOT religion when many believers try to demand to *us* that our own beliefs are. But then there is always that bit in the end...that piece like "But Why Not Beleive And Be Better Safe Than Sorry"... So many times I would have given people a thumbs up if it wasn't for the last little add in like that.

Atheism is not a religion in anybody's opinion. Is a philosophical view which defines people who are skeptical about the existence of deities. I would ask you a question. If there's a true benevolent God, who protects all human beings, why should I be worried, whether I believe in Him or not?

So I Should Lie To Myself And Pretend To Believe In Something That I Know Is Not Real Just So I Can Hope That My Pretend Beliefs Will Fool God And Get Me Into Heaven? What Is The Point In That?

Well if you just are believing to be "better safe than sorry" then your not really doing that much better. Might as welll not have a religion.
Religion is about believing. If you do not believe that there is a god, then you or someone else may be atheist, possibly not having any type of formal religion-believing scientifically?
But if you do believe, then you may be one that goes to a formal religion. And most people there believe and are not there just to be "safe"

Whoever told you atheism is a religion is probably also the one who told you to capitalize every word of a sentence.
Atheism doesn't mean that you believe in nothing. You have been grossly misinformed my friend.
As for Pascal's wager, what makes you think that believing in Christianity (or any other specific religion) is a safe bet? There are thousands of spiritual paths and there can be only one truth.
