My surgeon told me I would be back to work in a week. I told him what my job was and he revised it to 3 weeks. I detailed the specifics of my job including the amount of weight I am required to lift and it became 5 weeks. However, my surgery included the repair of an umbilical hernia, and this added to the overall recovery time. If I sat a desk all day, I would definitely have been back to work in a week.
I was very uncomfortable for two days and needed pain medication (Tylenol 3 with codeine), after that it wasn't too bad.

If you're having a laparoscopic choleycystectomy (lap choley), your hospital stay will be overnight, you'll be discharged to home the next day. Full recovery takes about 3 weeks but depending on the type of work you do, it could be as soon as 2.
A few lap choleys turn into open choleys (open choleycystectomy) due to unexpected events. In this case, you'd be discharged to home in 4 to 7 days and your recovery time would be 4-6 weeks with a return to work in about a month.

I would have to say that it depends to some extent on how long your gall bladder acted up before problems were diagnosed and it was removed - I had undiagnosed attacks for 6 months - felt like I was dying when it happened. It took me a week to 10 days to be feeling really good again - I was so afraid to eat afterwards because so many foods had been triggers.

I just had a friend and a family member who had the procedure done (gall bladder removed laproscop.) within one week of one another. Both were outpatient procedures. One took two days off from her job at a daycare, another took one week off her job as a secretary. Both said the third day was the worst post-op. So, I'd give yourself a week.

most avg a week, some more some less, depending on how healthy you are and what type of job you do.
my sister just had hers - she was better within about 4 days but didn't go back for 2 wks because she was still swollen and couldn't bend easily.
