Morality is not the same as righteousness. No matter how moral you may be, you will still sin. If you are without sin, then you need no salvation, but no one (except Jesus Christ) is without sin, not even you.

People have to understand that they are not moral. If moral simply means society acceptable behavior, then morality loses all meaning because I can train rats to behave. And is the motives of hope of reward or fear of punishment acceptable motives for morality? No, one is toadyism and the other is cowardice.

We are trained by the society we live in the subject of acceptable behavior. From infancy we are praised when our behavior is acceptable and not praised and/or punished when it is not and we all love praise and we all dislike punishment. By the time we are adults, we don't need direct praise; we can just imagine it and it gives us good feelings. The good feelings we get when we do a "good" deed and the bad feelings from our conscience when we do a "bad" deed are just the results of our society behavior-modification training. The reward of good feelings, the punishment of bad feelings is the foundation of our morality.

Our ideas that we are inherently good comes from our human capacity for self deception. When we realize that all of our morality is just one form or another of seeking rewards and avoiding punishments, that is the beginning of wisdom.

No. Lofty moral standards are a plus. Good morals, whether you're religious or not act as a protection from things like unwanted pregnancy and STDs.

this is a cyclic and confusing queston for me,all have sinned even jesus, yet whether or not it is a prerequisite to sin ,that is another question indeed.the point i think is moot as the ultimate goal is to seek forgiveness and be saved in christs name.

Buddhism, perhaps? i think of Courtney Love is a Buddhist, so if it accepts our Courtney, you're able to stand a wager! yet tell me the thank you to reject one faith or God, and then flow onto the subsequent, merely on the muse of you installation their archetype? You seem to prefer attractiveness and validation on your existence, yet i don't think of deep down you will have self assurance interior the recent God or faith. you're able to as properly make one up that fits your desires. Edit in reaction: you're lacking the component of the religion as a code, by utilising which to stay your existence. in case you prefer the religion you're meant to stick to its concept device, not discover a random one to slot your existence "as is". you're merely doing it backwards. Why did you point out Christian based religions then? you have the main appropriate on your God - that's what I reported. I stand by utilising my answer, you will not wholeheartedly have self assurance in Shiva, Bhudda or Krishna or the different deity, merely on the muse of attractiveness into their faith, might you? Or might you...? If that's what you prefer out of your God, you're able to make up your own faith, which you have performed. you have your own unique spirituality.
