Yes, when you get to the front gate, go to the visitors center instead of the gate. Bring your drivers license or ID, Registration, and proof of Insurance in with you and they will give you a Visitors Pass for the day, from there your good to go, just show your ID and Pass to the gate guard. And yes, they may search your vehicle.

We went to see my daughter at the end of basic training to fort jackson and they gave us a visitor's pass.
Make sure you don't have anything like an expired license or expired tabs on your car. Have your insurance information available in case they ask for it and you can get a visitors pass. They will ask you what you are doing there and it should be fine. They have a right to search your vehicle.
When we brought her to Fort Lee, we had to go through some big radiation garage to make sure we weren't carrying a bomb or something. They also check under the car with cameras or mirrors in some places.
You shouldn't have a problem getting a visitors pass if you have a legitimate reason to be there.

Haven;'t been there in about 5 years but chances are you will have to stop at the gate and sign in. You will receive a visitors pass which must stay in the front window of the car while you are there.
(met my wife of 25 years there)

You will not be able to stay in lodging because you do not have an ID card yet. You also need to see a doctor and would have to go off post to do it. Sign a new lease. There should be a military clause on it, as long as you can get your husband to sign it, or you a Power of Attorney. If you do not have one, have him tell his NCO once he get to AIT that he needs one.
