Some autofocus cameras will not allow you to take a photo if the camera is out of focus. You may need to switch to manual focusing if the light is too dim to autofocus.

Switch to manual exposure; if you're out of range in autoexposure the camera may not release.

And don't forget to wind the film, if it's not a motorized camera.

Finally, check your batteries, if it's a camera that uses them. Weak batteries may keep the shutter from releasing.

What kind of camera do you have? Do you have a digital, automatic, or manual?

I can help if I know what type you have.

If it is digital or automatic, you will have to switch it to manual mode. If it is too dark for my camera to focus, it will not take the picture. You will have to focus it manually and slow down the shutter speed. If you are trying to take pictures of lights, slow down the shutter speed to 3sec-1sec. I have taken fireworks with the speed down to about 1 sec.

Ah ha! You just need to switch it to manual mode. I have a similar camera. Do everything manually and it should work.

Must still not be enough light. Depending on how much light there is, you probably will need a tripod and need to slow down the shutter speed, usually below 30 secs.

Please Edit your question and tell us what make and model of camera you are using. Trying to answer without knowing is almost impossible.

EDIT
You have to be in Manual Mode so you can set shutter speed and aperture yourself.

Put the camera/lens on manual focus and try again.
