(Note: I do understand that this Book is a work of Complete Fiction!!!)

In the Book "The DaVinci Code" by Dan Brown, he states that Leonardo DaVinci Was a Pagan, not a Christian and that he painted Christian influenced art for the money (Starving artist and all...) and that he incorperated pagan symbology into most of his Christian paintings.

I was wondering if there is a shred of truth in Dan Brown's Claims?

Thank Your!

That is absolutely true - if you include Mystic Christianity in the definition of Paganism (which many do). There are other examples of this kind of thing. Many of the Cathedrals are built to contain pagan symbols and ideas (read up on all things Masonic for more on that). They built the Cathedrals for the money, but added their own influence, both in the structure and in the 'decorations' in the stonework. DaVinci was no different. He wanted people to be able to see what he believed was the truth - if they were looking.

A shred...yes. There is a non-fiction book called Holy Blood, Holy Grail that he based the book on. Now it is entirely a circumstantial case. But the idea that Mary and a daughter named Sarah moved to France is indeed an old rumor.

It is pretty hard to say what really happened, and frankly it isn't all that important.

None.
Da Vinci was never accused or tried for heresy or apostacy by the Church. He was civilly accused of homosexual acts but the case was dismissed.

There is no evidence that Da Vinci was anything but Catholic Christian and all the "pagan' symbols have Christian explanations.

He took real names and a few known lies, changed everything about them, and ran with the results. That's why on casual inspection, it LOOKS like it might be true.
There really is an 'Opus Dei', for example, but it's NOTHING like what he claims.

Da Vinci was a heretic towards the church. Other than that, not much is known about his real beliefs.

Well, if you understand that it was complete fiction then why do you ask?

Yes, there is some truth there.
