Cheap approaches don't work well, especially if you want them gone fast and want them to stay gone. Dawn might get rid of them temporarily but won't keep them gone. They are already in the house and the cats probably already have them.
Get everybody (cats and dogs) on Frontline Plus or Advantage (make sure to get the right type for each species). If you do this, the fleas will be gone fast and stay gone as long as you keep up the treatment every 30 days.
You can get it cheaper online. Try Doctors Foster and Smith. Avoid e-Bay - there are some scammers there that sell fake or expired product.

No, don't bath your dogs in Dawn. Please. You want to get rid of these things for good - Dawn will only wash off current fleas, your dogs will become reinfested before the day is out! And definitely don't use flea collars - worst 'treatment' of all.
Get proper flea treatment from your vets, for all of your animals. Frontline, Revolution, Advantage and Advocate are all excellent. Do not use any store-bought flea treatments because they don't work - stores aren't licensed to sell the appropriate drugs.

I agree with Bozema. Frontline is excellent to treat fleas, but it's not going to do any good, unless you get the cats on it also. Sometimes, Frontline runs deals...like by 3 treatments, get one treatment free. Plus, if you order it off line, many places offer free shipping with over 3 pipettes.

Cheap things do not work that well. Frontiline, is really good, it is not cheap, but not expensive.... around 50-60 bucks. Try that, it works great. Ask your vet for some.

Bathe your dog really well in Dawn (dilute it with water first) and that will kill at least a majority of the fleas then buy a flea collar.
