In Missouri, is it illegal to leave your dog in the car for a while?

I need to show a friend of mine that it's not illegal (unless it is) so that I can bring my dog with me for a couple days on a trip.

It's going to be cold, but I'm going to bring blankets and everything for him.

I need sources. Like, web pages with the laws and such. Thanks.

You should NEVER under any circumstances leave your dog in a car unattended. I would hope it would be illegal. If not it needs to be!

IF traveling and that is the case then no, as long as you are right there and maybe run into a gas station for coffee then right back out, it is not illegal, however because there are people with cell phones may decide 2 minutes is too long, it's not, but maybe a drive thru could keep this from happening and postponing your trip.

IF you plan on having the dog sleep in the car all night/ hen you. better be prepared for those shiny silver connected bracelets.
hot or cold it is not just neglect but animal cruelty. as the temps drop the dog can freeze, hot the dog suffocates and dies.
All states follow a basic guide line on what is cruel acts and this if you are planning to leave him in the car for more than a few minutes it falls under cruelty and may get you a felony to go with those shiny cuffs....errrrrr Bracelets.

According to this: http://files.hsus.org/web-files/PDF/2002_st_law_chart.pdf

Missouri just made sex abuse of an animal a "first degree misdemeanor" in 2002. No wonder the puppymills are so rampant there.

I doubt they'll have any problem with you leaving your dog in the car. I think the most danger, and most of the laws regarding dogs in cars, apply to the hot weather months, when the temp. inside a car can quickly get much hotter than the outside.

As long as it's not deathly cold....and I don't think the weather is forecasting a blizzard for MO, he should be fine.

It's not illegal to be travelling with your dog in the car or to leave the dog for a short time as long as it is not hot. But if the dog is staying in the car unattended for long periods of time, that would be considered animal neglect.

contact a animal shelter in Missouri, or the SPCA in Missouri. also call the dogs vet. he knows the animals health best. get recommendations from the vet, so all goes well with your pet. my Labrador loves to travel.you may have to find a sitter, or a kennel.animal@americanhumane.org or sheltervet@aol.com also www.aspca.org. I checked with someone that wants to open a shelter for pets displaced due to emergency's. they stated its against the law in all 50 states.

For traveling. I can't believe that it would be illegal. But if a dog is left unattended for a period of time that's another story.

No dog should be "left" in car. Or did you mean travel in car? I would not think it is illegal for a pet to ride in car. They may have restrictions, like crated, strapped in, etc.
