God forbid little Christian children see that there are different views out there!

Here's a thought: Take your kids to see the movie. Then talk to them about it. Explain what you believe in, and what you would want your child to believe in, but explain that there are other people out there who believe differently, but that it doesn't make them bad people. Also point out that the movies and books are fantasy, and not real. The "church" in the movies isn't the church in the real world.

Honestly, people. You guys got Narnia. Let non-Christians have our fanciful fantasy epic.

Instead of refusing to let your kids see the movie and telling them it;s evil (which'll probably make them want to see it more anyway), turn it into a learning experience.

Coca Cola: I don't care what Pullman said. I'm talking about the books and movies. Plenty of authors have said things I don't like or agree with, doesn't mean their works are any less great.

And to all the Christians saying they are not afraid and will see the movie, good on you! :D

My husband and I are both Catholics (ALL Catholics ARE Christians) and we are really looking forward to seeing The Golden Compass. I've read that the books this story is taken from are 'atheist' books, but I've watched all of the 'trailers' and found NOTHING 'offensive' to me or my beliefs. I have a 'daemon' from the Golden Compass as my 'desktop picture' and I love it! Yes, The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe (from The Chronicles of Narnia) was a 'religious story' ... and so was Lord of the Rings (three movies total) and I didn't hear anyone saying ANYTHING about either of them ... and I think it's just as 'wrong' to say something 'bad' about The Golden Compass. If a STORY is well written, if it is a 'good fantasy' the 'religion' or 'lack of religion' should fall by the wayside. The Golden Compass is coming out right before Christmas ... and we'll see it before Christmas. We're going to see Sweeney Todd on Christmas Day ... gee, a musical about a serial killer sure isn't very 'religious' either, but we'll go to Midnight Mass and we can watch what we want to ... so I agree with you, but would go farther ... just quit being so witchy about the religion or lack of it in ANY fantasy, and relax and just ENJOY THE SHOW!

"The Da Vinci Code" was laughable due to its incoherentess, "Zeitgestmovie" seems to have flaws - according to some atheists on here, and this has led me to believe that a film is nothing more than an opinion from the director.

My faith is strong, and something as simple as a film will not shake my faith one bit (I'm old enough to realize that it's fiction). The only thing that scares me is whether or not "The Golden Compass" lives up to its hype (It seems to be SO good according to some people). I'm a movie watcher, and I highly doubt that it'll be good since the movies these days seem to be getting worse every year. I will have to see for myself, and the chances are that I'll probably be disappointed by the time the movie ends.

In my opinion any Christian that gives this guy even a penny of their money is just insulting God because this guy does it all the time! Atheists can have their movie and their illusions that it is harmless if they want. I won't have anything to do with it!

I have to work to earn my money and why should I give it to some overstuffed writer who mocks and hates what I hold to be best? I checked it out and you can even go to the web page and pick out your own demon... now that is just plain twisted!

Just look at the writer of Harry Potter I have seen her in a couple interviews and she quickly stopped doing them it seems because even in a scripted interview she comes off like she is a a nasty and rather petty and very arogant person. There was a writer a couple of years ago that wrote a few stories about a girl witch in Russia and she spent millions sueing the writer until all the books were pulled. She is incredibly wealthy and if you look all she is doing with it is trying to make herself more wealthy!

Philip Pullman is even more hateful and arrogant. Here are some quotes from this guy I pulled of one of the movie pages discussing his movie.

" But if there is a God, and he is as the Christians describe him, then he deserves to be put down and rebelled against. " —Philip Pullman, author of the fantasy series His Dark Materials

"'My books are about killing God.' So said Philip Pullman, author of The Golden Compass,

I'll put the price of the movie tickets in the first Salvation Army bell ringer's cup I see or send some to Compassion or World Vision! If I want to spend that money why should I help make a guy like that rich rather than help someone?

Many Christians are only reacting to the sentiment of the book on which the movie is based on. What many don't realize is that the movie took a slightly different route than the movie and doesn't have the same atheistic theme to it. The makers of the movie realized that it would be risky to take the same approach to religion as the books did for such a commercial film

This is a pretty hilarious topic I have to say. I have not Read the series of books but i believe it has something to do with the government in the book which is a theocracy. the protagonists want to expose this system as a lie and Many Christians find this an attack on their way of life.

Only Extremists are scared of those movies.

I'm a Christian and a Man and it' going to take more then a Movie to Scare me. And I It dot really matter what the movie is about it is the intentions of the director. faith in a deity of any sort . How do I know because I have read comments from him in his expressive dislike towards Narnia he is making this movie for the sake of hate this is why its not a good movie to watch its hate based. and The movie is actually teaching kids to hate not only God but people of faith. Im not one of those fun die Christians but since I did some research and found the intent of the director i disliked it right away, he made this movie out of his own personal hatred.

christens hate harry potter( you fanatasy epic along with a 1000 othere) but they did not attack it like they attack this movie, umm i wonder why??? duhh. the golden compass is directly attacking religion, make sure you know your facts before you post something.
we got narnia and the lord of the rings thats about it. and just because a few Christians wont go see a movie doent mean they all wont, your being stereotypical.

The reason Christians and such don't like it is because it is made by an Atheist and people say they kill some guy who is supposed to resemble God.I want to know though....How do they kill God if the person is an Atheist?!?!

By the way. I AM Christian and I want to go see it.

I didn't know that the Golden Compass had anything to do with religion. It looks cute and Narnia came to mind when I saw the trailer! My niece and nephew have seen Narnia and probably will see this when it comes to DVD! BTW me and most of my family are Christians but we are open-minded!

Weren't you the one just vehemently defending Islam over the teddy bear thing saying that it's only *extremists* and not indicative of "true Islam" (if you were only intellectually honest enough to actually research the history of Islam you would know what a foolhardy position that is... check out thereligionofpeace.com)

And yet, you assume that "all Christians" are "afraid" of the movie based on what one group has said?

Please. At least drop the double standard.
