I am going to DC on business tomorrow (Saturday) for a week and I will have the weekend to go see sights. Is there any suggestions as to what to photograph? I will be on a shoestring budget so I wont be able to get into any museums. But I will be with someone with a car.

I'll have a camera and a tripod. Any suggestions?

There is all of the usual stuff that you know about.

For pics, try the neighborhood just north and west of Dupont Circle. The leaves are gorgeous, right now, and mixed with the great old architechture it is a great place for shooting.

Also, forget the car. The train will take you wherever you want to go.

The museums are FREE - that's why my husband and I had our honeymoon there in 1997. I would recommend you get a list of the museums at the Smithsonian and pick the ones you're most interested in visiting (there are too many if you'll only be there a week) and start there, then fill in your time with visits to the military and Presidential monuments if you have time. Arlington Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier are a great place to visit too - very solemn and sort of mind-blowing (in my opinion). You can film the Changing of the Guard, which occurs every half hour.

My husband and I are dying to go back on a future vacation.

The Smithsonian is free - enjoy the museums thanks to your tax dollars at work. Head down to the mall where you'll have access to tons of free museums and where there's plenty to photograph - Capitol, White House, Wash Monument, Archives, Lincoln / Jefferson Memorial, various war memorials, etc.

Don't forget to head over to Arlington Cemetery. It has some beautiful photo opportunities itself and also provides a gorgeous skyline view of the city.
