My orthodontist said that I would most likely be given rubber bands to wear at my next appointment (a week from today)... and I'm a little anxious about the effects that they might have on kissing and other intimate activities.

I know that wearing the bands all the time except for eating and brushing is necessary to get the braces off on time. But, will I be able to take them off before kissing and the such?

Will taking them off for an hour or two every so often (not every day) in addition to the time they are off for eating and brushing have a noticable impact on how soon I will get my braces off?

Thanks for your help.

You can take them off before you kiss. It will not make much difference in the end.

i recently was takwn off rubber bands and to be honest it hurts like heck the first week or few days and takes a while to get used to! but u can take them off every so often onetime i forgot for a whole week and they still said i was progressing sometimes they say these things to scare you but dont leave them off as long as i did! Kissing? i would take them off before a date and put them on after. lol
p.s advil and stuff can help relieve some pain caused by them

Taking them off for an hour won't do anythingat all.I have braces, and whenever I have rubber bands,i sometimes take them off so I can talk clearly and not have my words slurred.whenever I knew I wanted to possibly kiss,I took them off so they wouldn't get in the way.A few minutes won't hurt anything.

I wear rubber bands, and I'm SUPPOSED to wear them all the time, but I take them off for the whole day of school (they're right in the front!) and they work fine for me. They've already pulled down my teeth the way it's supposed to be, but I continue to wear them anyway. Don't worry about it. Just take them off for your date and kissing or whatever.

It makes open mouth kisses a jaw workout, other than that it won't change much. Any time you have them off can impact their effectiveness, but they are mostly just an extra anyway.

THE RUBBER BANDS SHOULN'T POSE A PROBLEM.
IF THEY SHOULD REMOVE THEM AND REMEMBER TO REPLACE THEM.
