When folks come up behind my car while I am driving the legal limit, they act so angry, they want to exceed the speed limit, and they tailgate me - and this ofttimes includes those huge semis !! What to do ??? What would you do?? Know what will put the fear of God in them ??? Just turn on your flashers, and WATCH in your rear view mirror at how quickly they drop back. What do YOU do when the speeders tailgate you ????

If there are multiple lanes, slower traffic should keep right. This is law in some states, courtesy in all. Move over when you can do so safely.
Trying to control the behavior of an idiot (read tailgater) is impossible to do. Don't aggrevate the situation by trying to do so. Put flashers on for a few blinks to ask them to give you some room, then let them go as soon as you can. Slowing slightly on two-lane roads will encourage them to pass sooner and allow them to do so more quickly.
Jotting the tag number and location, then passing the info onto local or county authorities can often result in stricter enforcement along that stretch. Too many complaints on the same vehicle can result in "specific enforcement". Commercial vehicles can be phoned in to the company.

Don't do anything to antagonize a tailgater. Most of them are harmless idiots, but you never know about that 1% guy who will fly off the handle.
I have read stories about annoyed and angry tailgaters in the Bay Area who pull in front of a slower driving car, then slam on their brakes - on the freeway! These tailgaters should have their license revoked and suspended for a year - they have NO business driving a vehicle.
Take a deep breath and maintain your composure. Let the idiot driver behind you pass you and be on their way. It is far more important for you and your passengers to arrive at your destination safely, than to try to "get even" with an idiot.
If you really want to do something, make a note of all the details - the road you're on, the nearest exit or cross steet, date and time, and the other vehicle's license make and model. Then write a letter to your state trooper or highway patrol agency. The California Highway Patrol will send the other driver a letter of warning.
We had a situation this past summer of a driver of a black BMW who was speeding, tailgating and making many unsafe lane changes during commute traffic, for several weeks. Many people wrote letters to the CHP complaining about that driver. Eventually, the CHP sent several cruisers out on the freeway and caught the guy. Sweet justice.

I see 2 situations, pick the answer that matches you the best.
are you on a multi lane road where there is room to move to a more right hand lane ?
if so, then they are trying to get you to follow the "slower traffic keep right" signs, remember that these signs have nothing to do with the speed limit, they have to do with traffic flow.
I try to run people like this off the road because they destroy my drive to work.
going the speed limit gives you no right to trap others behind you that want to go faster. the police enforce the limit if they feel like it, if you try to do it, it will only cause you pain.
if you are on a 2 lane road where there is no legal passing, then they are just being jerks, I would just ignore them till you can pull over and let them go by safely.
if it is a 2 lane road where passing is ok, then they are likely just waiting for a chance to get by you.
remember,
many people are so upset driving that they don't care about there own lives much less yours.
don't let anyone pressure you,
don't upset anyone to the point that they will try to kill you, its just not worth it, let them by if possible.

If possible, I make an opportunity for them to get by me so that they are no longer my problem. If that requires speeding up 10 MPH I do it.
You don't know if that person is on drugs, got less than 1 hour of sleep last night, or just found out their spouse is sleeping with half the neighbors. If they are already not driving safely, making them even more angry is not going to help you.
If it is raining, drive to the side a little where the other cars aren't. You will kick up more water and they will move back naturally to improve visibility.

If basically a million/2 of the inhabitants paid interest and drove at an excellent value of velocity there may well be no street rage. it fairly is human beings inattentiveness, rudeness, and disrespect for different peoples time that reason different drives to be enraged

Nobody tailgates me, because I get out of someone's way if they're coming up on me fast. If people want to speed, I let them by. And semi truck drivers are very good drivers usually, so if they're coming up on you "fast" you need to speed the eff up or get outta the way. Something tells me they're not afraid of your little flashers as you'd be a bug on their grill basically.

Well tailgaters are a HEADACHE, very aggravating. I TRY to get over soon as I can. Does NO good to aggravate them by slowing down, especially if they are STUCK behind you!
Why take a chance on someone KILLING you out of such stupidity.

Just ignore the morons and hotheads behind you. If you are driving legally they have no beef with you. It's them. Just don't be driving the speed limit in the fast lane of a 3 lane Interstate. That can get you killed. Keep to the right as the law says and go at your own pace and let the speed demons kill themselves and waste their gas in the left lanes.

Yeah, that really bugs me also. I work for a utility company and drive a company vehical so I MUST obey the speed limit and when I drive to the office doing 50 or 55 they are constantly on my tail. If I'm in a good mood and had my coffee I usually pull over to the side and let them pass but if I'm in , what I call my " bite me " mood I just slow down more and more and REALLY get their goat. If you live in California just get outta their way or they will shoot you

just get out of the idiots way, call the police if you have a cell phone report them people like that do not belong on the road as sooner or later either they ( the raging ones) will either kill or be killed, or- break out the rocket launcher, let him pass then take him out with one good shot, just make sure you go a different wy so you done get a flat tire
