Incredible. Not a single person who responded thus far hasn't even read the question. Idiots.

The FBI estimates there are at least 200,000,000 guns in civilian hands, held by about 59,100,000 gun owners. It's hard to tell for sure, as there isn't a national gun register.

Well rosco gave the stats but forgot 1 big number .....all the guns the criminals have that aren't accounted for. As for the numbers.....it's NUNYA... nun ya business unless someone tries to take the . Then you will see all of blue collar middle america stand up as 1 and stop it ...well hopefully thats what would happen, it would have helped the jews in 1930's germany if people said no, or china or russia or......

I have not been able to count them, but so long as not one of them is in the hands of a criminal I think it's alright. At least they have a common sense rule that a householder can defend their property without risk to his/her life. Here in the UK, if you harm an intruder you become the criminal and they become the victim.
Oh! for a UK common sense political party.

I don't think there are very many guns out there, if you want to use the most technical definition of the word. Now if you mean rifles, shotguns, pistols, etc....well, that's a completely different story. =P

Not enough. In the hands of non-criminals, that is. A disarmed people is a conquered people. Just ask the Russians and the Chinese.

They're not all registered. It's not good for even the U.S government to know. "Happiness, is a warm gun!".
