shouldn't all Christians should be dirt-poor?
Also if I (a non-believer) ask you to empty the contents of your wallet into my hands, shouldn't you comply?
With that said, if you don't, aren't you picking and choosing what to follow and what not to. If this is so then what makes you any different than a non-believer?
And don't tell me I'm taking those two things out of context, this is something that Jesus made COMPLETELY clear in the bible.

this is funny. Either you don't really know anything about what Jesus taught, or you are in a state of denial.

I have plenty of verses in various different bible translations. They state specifically that Christ's followers should not have material goods and that if ANYONE asks for something, that they should give them that and more, and not expect anything in return....The "return" is the heavenly one.
I am choosing not to show any of them because Christians should know these things...wait not too many do, and many that do deny it. It is hard to twist some of this stuff around to mean anything different than what I am saying, but somehow people choose to believe that.

this is the #1 thing that will keep "christians" out of "heaven" - even the twisted logic needed to maintain their beliefs is not enough to overcome their evolutionary need to survive. Money and the hoarding of "stuff" is how we do that.
interested to see what christians say about this.

Questions like this make me wonder what folks have been taught, and by whom. Can you give me the scriptures in the Bible where Jesus said, or his disciples taught, that a follower of Christ must be dirt poor or empty the contents of their wallets into the hands of anyone who asks. That is ludicrous thinking.
Jesus did say to help the "least of these". If that's what you're referring to, then ok. If you asked me for something I would give it to you, within reason. I wouldn't take from my family to give to anyone else, Jesus also taught that. That includes giving to non-believers. I've done that many times, most believers do that often. Most believers just give out of the abundance that God has given to them and don't think about it.
About being dirt poor. Where does this teaching come from? Is it the "it's harder for a rich man to enter heaven than to pass through the eye of a needle" and the teaching that went with it? That teaching is all about where your heart is and what you love most.
Have you read these things for yourself, or are you repeating what someone else has asked you? If you're completely set against hearing that you've taken these things out of context, and that turns out to be the case, how will you ever learn anything? If you don't want to learn anything, then what's the point?

No not all Christians "should" be dirt poor. If all Christians were poor then when Jesus tells us to give to the poor who would be able to give?
No I do not have to give you the contents of my wallet just because you ask for it. That sounds like the IRS. LOL
No I'm not picking and choosing what I will follow from God's word. I work for a living and will not be forced to hand over what I have worked for to a thief.
I wont tell you you are taking things out of context, but I will tell you to study to show yourself approved of God, a workman that need not be ashamed. Except Jesus and you will have a clearer understanding of his word.
Jesus is Lord

first of all, you should really include the scriptures you are trying to twist.
Jesus was not 'dirt poor' and neither did he expect his followers to be.
Money is nothing more than a tool- to sum up his teachings (telling the rich man to sell all he had, saying the LOVE of money is the root of all evil) if money is your God then there is a problem- some people can have many and not have a problem if God told them to give it all away, had this been the case with the rich man Jesus would not have told him that- if he did not have a problem with money being more important to him than God then it would not have been a problem to be addressed.
There are many that have lots of money but don't live like it , they are not gluttenous and their money goes to productive pursuits- If Jesus came and told them to get rid of it all, they would, their money does not control them- for others it might be other things they are holding on to, afraid to let go of, allowing those things to be their master rather than submitting to God- in those cases that would be the thing Jesus would deal with.
There are rich and poor all throughout the Bible- Jesus and his family certainly were not poor or destitute (the stable was not becasue they couldn't afford the inn, it was because there was no room- lots and lots of people were in town that evening!)
If you have any other scriptures to support you false ideas, please share them . . . otherwise I can only surmise that you don't know the scriptures as you would like others to believe and that your only purpose is to spread deceit and bitterness.

It is also completely clear in the bible to not commit false witness against thy neighbor. If you lie and are not truly in need. ( not want but truly in need) then you sin and Jesus is clear on what happens to unrepentant sinners. Also God will not be mocked without that person paying the penalty. Maybe you should be up on the COMPLETELY clear road to salvation. I guess you only read what you wanted to read also. That would make you a hypocrite. The bible is perfectly clear that you will get back what you give out. reap what you sew. I love it when someone tries to hide behind the word of God yet mocks it at the same time.
Real Classy guy, Proverbs is clear that you are a fool.

Oh, ye of such small knowledge......
No, And Jesus was NOT poor either. They gambled for his clothes. You don`t gamble for poor persons rags...
God does not want you to be poor... Actually he blesses us going out and blesses us coming in, He blesses us in the city and in the fields.
He is asking for you to give freely. It matters not, if it is a penny or a gazillion dollars. We are to help others. Do I? Yes every chance I get. Can we help everyone. NO, Never.
Ya see, Jesus said there will always be poor folks.. BUT, we are to help them.. And, it matters not what they do with it. If you give it to the bum on the corner or the local church, or to the hungry family down the road, or the homeless with no blankets. It just matters that you give. What they do with it is between them and God.. It isn`t my money in the first place. It is his money. He gave it to me.. I will NOT tell God what to do with his money..
Some folks love money, as their God. The most important thing for them is money.. Money is NOT the root of all evil. It is the love of money..
Heaven`s streets are paved with gold.. God doesn`t need finances . His kids do..
Peace & God bless from Texas. <><

I wouldn't give you my wallet because I have other godly obligations that I plan on using the money for.
1 Timothy 5:8- Certainly if anyone does not provide for those who are his own, and especially for those who are members of his household, he has disowned the faith and is worse than a person without faith
