It MIGHT be the lamp's thermistor....

It MIGHT be the lamp's power supply...

It MIGHT be the color wheel, although I find that UNLIKELY....

I suggest you have a Mitsubishi authorized servicer come to your home and inspect the thermistor and check the lamp power supply....

If you press the DEVICE and MENU button together on the front panel and hold them for 8 seconds, a trouble code will flash.
There are 2 sections of flashes....with a quick pause in between the flashes, then a LONGER pause.
Count them

1-2 is Normal operation
3-4 is Abnormal Lamp
3-8 is Excess Lamp Temperature

And there's more choices too....
You should see ONE LONG lamp light, then a burst of flashes, PAUSE....a second burst of flashes, then a LONGER pause. Then it repeats the flashes. Pause Flashes....Then the LONGER PAUSE again. It does this 3 times then stops...you can press the buttons and hold them for 8 seconds to re-read them if you want....

Get those flash patterns....

Now, you can LOOK at the LEDs for an answer too...

If the STATUS LED stays YELLOW after it shuts down , that's a temperature failure....
IF the status lamp blinks RED after shutdown that's a FAN that's bad.
IF the LAMP light stays red after shutdown, it's the LAMP or ballast

sorry to hear about your problem. We had the same thing happen about two weeks ago to our 62" DLP. Picture went out, turns out the lamp is not the problem. We had a Mitsubishi certified repair company look at it. Our motherboard is bad and it will cost almost $900 to repair! We are still waiting to hear back from Mitsubishi. I have to believe that they must have a problem with their mother boards or something. I have seen quite a few postings about this same thing happening. I hope your problem turns out to be easier than the motherboard!

There is more than likely a thermistor on the lamp circuit that shuts it down if it gets to hot. Since light bulbs get hotter when they get older, it might be that the thermistor is burned out.

Unfortunately, yes. But you might want to check to see if it's under warranty. I think most manufacturers will replace the lamp if it goes out prematurely.

Sounds like the circuit board that has the voltage regulator on it went out. Contact Mitsubishi. (They made the airplanes that attacked Pearl Harbor, so I would buy a new DIFFERENT brand TV!)

You are in trouble and need to get it professionally repaired or replaced. Motherboard is fried.
