You should cancel on him...not because of anything he did, but because I wouldn't want him to have to deal with your high-maintenance ways. Realize that perhaps he's...GASP... interested in getting to know you and doesn't just want to buy his way into your pants. Maybe he (wrongly) assumed you have some depth.
Walking around somewhere (such as a mall, where there are endless things to blab about) is a great way to bond with someone and learn what they're all about. Let's not forget that there are usually some decent places to eat within the vicinity of a mall, and maybe he plans to go to one. They're not usually 5-star establishments, but nice enough places for a first date.

I have mixed feelings about your question. I think it really depends on how old you are. are you in Jr. high/high school?? if so then that's what that age group does. now if you're older than yes it's not the best of dates. he may not know where to take you or he just may want to get to know you a little better before arranging something better. don't cancel the date just because you think it's cheap... that's not what it should be about anyways. if he's the man for you, you will never know because you discarded him because he was cheap/poor? whats it going to hear to go on this one day with him anyways, you may really like him.

Nah. I think he just wants to take things slow.
When you're walking around at the mall, there are things to do, things to see, things to talk about. Having dinner on a first date can turn out badly if you have nothing to talk about.

Maybe he doesn't have much money. Maybe he wants to make sure you're someone he wants to spend money on? It's not a bad first date. You should go on it and see if you have fun. And if you don't and he still seems cheap, just don't bother with him again.

That is hilarious! Is this guy for real? Maybe he works Mall Security and is trying to kill two birds with one stone? Whatever the reason, shine him.

it may sound cheap BUT it can be interesting --- if you get to know each other and the sightseeing is limited where you are --- its better than going to a movie --- and if you have coffee and or a meal it may work out more expensive than the movies

well, in my experience that can either be he just doesnt know what to do, or he's trying to get in your pants and isnt putting much thought into anything else. if you think its the latter one, cancel. if not, why not suggest something else?
