According to Jesus' teachings, all Christians should be dirt-poor.
And if I ask you to empty the contents of your wallet into my hands, you should comply.
With that said, if you don't, you are obviously picking and choosing what to follow and what not to, which makes you no better than any atheist. And don't tell me I'm taking those two things out of context, this is something that Jesus made COMPLETELY clear in the bible.

I am an Overseas Missionary Priest and I do not get funding from anywhere, I rely on donations and there are not many of those. I preach to poor people and anything I give them I buy from wages that I have had to earn in my own country in whatever job I can find to be able to fund my trips abroad. I am a Priest because I have a love of God and the people of this earth. I personally do not know of any rich preachers, most of us having to pay off debts because we fund our own studies to become Priests in the first place and the cost of our clergy clothing. I am still paying off my loans and trying to save money also to go abroad again with donated goods for the poor.

No it should not be based upon what the Bible says. Consider Jesus he was not a rich man, He did not receive money for preached to others and the Bible states that life's water is free (see Revelations 22:17)

I don't remeber Jesus saying we should all be dirt poor. Funny that. Anyway, I agree, preachers shouldn't be using religion and people's faith in order to reap profit. Thats not what Christianity teaches at all.

You will find that the vast majority of Christian ministers have jobs outside the church to make ends meet. Most Christian churches have less than 80 families in attendance on any given Sunday.
There is no biblical mandate that Christian ministers be poor. Neither is there one for them to be rich. They are allowed to make a living preaching the Gospel. Paul speaks about this. (Cf. I Timothy 5:17, I Corinthians 9)

I say if these preachers want to be like Jesus, let them preach out in the open, in parking lots, in parks, in the town square, at people's houses, Jesus never had a 'place' to meet with his followers, He didn't rent a synagogue, he didn't buy a temple to meet with His followers. Let's see how they like it this way, the preachers as well as their followers.

while it is writen that we should reap the benifits of our labor, we should not grow fat on the Lords harvest. only take what we need and pass on the rest to do the Lords work. I don't have a cadilac, but I've got a real nice mountain bike. It's all I needed at the time.I have a "day job" and don't preach for profit.

I know what you mean whtshw. It disturbs me to see these televangelist making millions and living a life of luxury off of other gullible people. I remember seeing a video of Benny Hinn passing around a heroin pipe to some of his workers and one of them ended up dying, which was documented on a news station. People still give to that man. He's not the only one.
The Bible says you can't serve two masters, God or money. Which do you think they really serve?

I do not trust the "MEGA-Churches" because of the rich preachers; obviously those preachers never took the vow of poverty.
All the money they get is from tithing, what the congregation gives, and it's ALL TAX DEDUCTIBLE. It is also unaccounted on their tax forms where it could be used for the church's missions. As for I know, supporting the preacher's Cadillacs and mansions are not church missions; although, it can never be proved with a tax audit.

the entire element sickens me. they actually take funds from people who're so blinded by utilising faith that they don't see by way of those scams. that funds would want for use to feed and get dressed a baby. families handing down their earnings to those backside dwellers would perhaps have a lot greater effective makes use of for his or her funds. Like perhaps fixing the topic concerns that reason them to pay for prayer interior the 1st place. I observed a preacher on television the different day, and that i became virtually bodily ill. that's mass fraud, supported by utilising the government, and human beings willingly pay into it, which makes it completely criminal. I wager they experience blessed, residing off the suffering of others. ((((hugs))))

No some preachers take advantage of their "flock". I've never been one to tithe in the sense that I put money in the bucket each Sunday but I do send 10% to charity. They're the ones who need it. I'm not going to pay for the preacher's brand new car and God don't need my money.
