Sorry, I disagree.
It is true that multiple coincidences do frequently lead to superstitious belief. However, ritual and religion both require the unsubstantiated assumption that human subjective mental experiences can actually alter reality. Any scientist can tell you this is not so. Objective reality does not depend on what people think about it, but the belief that it does is called Solipsism and is ultimately the root of most superstitions.
If I'm limited to either true or false, I'd have to say false.

People don't know answers to things a long time ago..
People make up fake answers to satisfy themselves...
Fake answers become religion.
Later, scientists find real answers.
Idiots still believe fake answers, lol.

Pretty much, but I'd say there were more causes of superstition than just multiple co-incidences, rationalisation of random events being one of them.
